So, it's ok to mod your car if you track it, which decreases its value, but not ok to mod it for the street which also decreases its value?

Don't you think you are "assuming" that people who mod their cars don't realize the impact to their resale value? I realize that if I want to get the most out of my car is I sell it I need to return it to stock and sell all the mods seperately.

Also - is it even smart to race the S2000? What major championships has it won?

Come on guys let's be reasonable. The guy that installed an AEM intake without the water catch valve and then drove through water is a very good example of Bieg's point of view.

My point is that if Bieg's 2 1/2 years of pontificating couldn't instill an ounce of commonsense in people like him then it's obviously futile. And painful.

If you want to install an AEM then go ahead, but be realistic. You won't get ballistic performance increase, you will reduce resale (or have to remove it). You will get some increase in intake sound and a cool looking piece under the bonnet (even Bieg likes them).

But for flips sake, realise the consequences. You're going to be late. 'Cause if it rains heavy you have to stop. To hell with being late. You'll be much later with a blown F20C.

But even this is futile. The tenacity with which some people strive for stupidity is beyond mention.

Could this be EXACTLY what Bieg foresaw from the "get go"? Lots of "action". Lots of stuff flying around to help him get by his daily routine that, perhaps, has gotten a bit mundane. And we all gave it to him.
I'm going to excercise my perogative and just like in poker, "I'm out".
But if this thread goes further south, or gets closed or someone gets banned, can somebody PM me to tell me, please? Thanks!

This thread was a bad call from the outset Bieg, and I'm more than a little surprised that you've chosen to resurrect this topic given the problems it's caused in the past. You're not an unintelligent person and you must have forseen the hostile reaction to it. Just what are you trying to prove? Sorry mate, but you can protest your right to post your point of view till the cows come home for all I care, it just doesn't wash. You've thrown your hat into this arena to the point of nausea in the past and you knew full well the reaction it was likely to cause this time. The obvious inference is that you were looking for controversy, not there's anything wrong with that other than the fact that it's already been done to death.

I actually agree with much of what you have to say on many subjects, but your delivery makes me wince at times. I think you really need to spend some time on your inter-personal skills, unless it's just in this particular medium that you manage to rub people up the wrong way.

On the subject of modding.. the S2000 is a niche market car and most of us prize it more than we would your average runabout. For that reason, many of us, me included, add cosmetic mods to personalize the car. Nothing wrong with that, it seems you've done a little of that yourself.

On the subject of turbos, big wheels, and all the other mechanical mods that people do, I can see where the very young and the very inexperienced might be labouring under the impression that they are increasing the value of the car. For the rest of us who are a little longer in the tooth, and have done all this stuff to cars in the past, I think your warnings are wholly unnecessary. Those sort of mods aren't for me, but I've no doubt that the people who choose to do them have no illusions about the resale implications of doing so, and Hell... it's their car!!!

Wow Bieg,

I'm sorry that you take all my words as attacks on you. You know what, I agree with you. I agree on every damn thing you say. I just don't like how you go about it. You take words and twist them around to change the direction of the thread. Everyone that disagrees with you is "against" you. This hasn't been about the article since half-way on the first page. You mock people for going off topic yet you haven't been on-topic for a while now. I along with the majority here are tired of your endless crusades. Some, including myself, agree with you. Isn't that enough? People who mod cars, put them on eBay, and then expect double their return are stupid. Bottom-of-the-jar stupid. I just want to know what you were trying to achieve with this thread? Did you want this: Thank you Bieg, you showed me that is is not worth the time and effort to mod a car, unless I want to race on a track. I will keep every subsequent car I ever own in stock condition so that I can get blue book value or hopefully more on every car that I sell. The Road & Track article was spot on except for rare occasions. That is probably the best article that was in that magazine because they are usually biased and cannot touch the writing excellence of Autoweek.

continued...

I was just wondering, Bieg. What do you think about dealer options and Manufacturer's accessories? Don't you think they are a waste of money too? Those honda floor mats, the sun-roof visor, and the rear wing spoiler are not going to really be accounted for when the original owner sells their car. Do you think that the rear storage nets are going to matter to a prospective buyer? Even add-on rims do not matter when looking at a used car magazine such as the Auto Trader. So, do you think it is a waste of money?
