Thumbs up Big bore throttle body...

AJ-Racing recently started a thread concerning Spoon's new big bore throttle body (TB) for the MY06+ S2000 (DBW). I was just "poking around" on Science of Speed's (SoS') website and found that they offer a big bore service for our TBs as well. The primary difference between what these two manufacturers offer is the fact that the Spoon TB is a complete replacement (no core replace) while the SoS TB requires you to send them your TB and they will bore it out. The cost difference is approximately $345 less with SoS.

I am not about to knock either product, but at this point I am more inclined to go with SoS because I like the fact that I get to have my stock TB modified. Thoughts?

I have seen aj-racings gb, and I think im more likely to get the spoon one only because if anything were to happen I would like to still have a factory unit that has not been touched.

wouldnt it be better to have the spoon tb on and sell the stock one to make up for the difference? how much does that stock tb fetch?

whats the difference in size of the spoon tb and SoS tb?

When I put on a 70mm TB,I decided that I would keep mine instead of sending mine off as a core. I did it just for the reason you stated.

How do you figure there is only a $150 difference?

AJR Spoon 70mm TB = $590 + keep your stock TB
SoS Bore TB = $245 + no backup TB

That's a huge $350 difference

I have contacted SoS with stocking a few DBW TB's for those of us whose S is their only means of transportation, but unfortunately, they are not willing to do so at the moment. For the non-DBW folk, they have the option of keeping their own TB for an extra $300 surcharge because SoS does carry extra cores in stock.

SoS bore TB definitely looks like the better deal at the moment, as there's really no point in keeping your own stock TB (it's not like you're going to switch back and forth), not to mention another company named BDL sells 68, 70, and 74mm bored TB's for ~$300 WITHOUT core exchange.

I guess because it's a Spoon product there has to be a JDM premium.
