i think the best way to go about is to buy a folding bike.

I'm thinking about getting one. I think it justifies the price of the bike hitch and bike to get one that folds and fits in your trunk.

I'm sure you have to get rid of the tools on the bottom of the trunk, but that would be the way to go.

I'm looking at BMW Q3.S folding bike, but I'm not sure if it'll fold and fit in to our trunk.
well that might work for one bike.,.. but if you have two bike .. then what...

back to a tow hitch or truck mount

I didn't go with a trunk mount because if there's even a small amount of dirt or your bikes are heavy you might eventually find some scratching.

My car was rear ended a month ago and thank god I kept the hitch receiver on because my car would have been worse had I not kept it on. No insurance company will avoid paying because of a hitch (every single SUV out there has a hitch) and these owners have no problem.

To quote Skweekyclean:
Is there ever an insurance issue if someone claims your car did more damage to his/hers than normal because of your hitch?

THEY HIT YOU! If they want to complain perhaps they should have been paying attention and not smacked into your car. So you can see they'd lose that arguement real fast...LOL

Here's a picture with my bike and no scratches at all on the car. Go hitch all the way...

i don't know, but the conclusion on that thread was that you need to reinforce the bottom of the trunk in order for you to avoid cracking later-on.

also, something about the weight distribution and how it effects handling, etc...

I was looking for a hitch as well a while back, so I could tow my race tires to auto-x, etc. but after reading and researching a bit, I figure the best way to go about is to somehow stick everything in the car and the trunk...

you could fit one whole size tire in the trunk, and rest just sorta on the passenger seat. lol

I'm still trying to figure this out.

were you able to find any other tow hitch..?

I'm sure it does affect weight distribution and how it effects handling, but i'm sure when you are towing anything.. you wouldn't be racing down the street anyway...
more of a cruze ...

damn.. this is tough.. what to do what to do.

no, no other ones.

I gave up all together. My gf has an Evo, she's gonna be my tire hauler.

Trying to fit her Victoracers and mine, i mean, it's crazy how much room Evo has.

My tires, 2 in the trunk, 2 in the backseat without the seat cushions, hers 4 in the backseat, maybe 2 in the front passenger seat.

i have my top down, with drinks in the trunk like a woman. LOL

I miss my evo in that way...

Oh another question?

if you have a spoiler (ex.Feels Replica Spoiler) you wouldn't be able to use the trunk mounted bike rack correct? but an OEM spoiler you can....

My 2 cents. I researched this a lot about a year and a half ago. What I came up with was the Da'lan or Curt 1 1/4 hitch with a yakima king pin 2 bike carrier. I think the Da'lan and Curt hitches were the same and I don't even know which one I have. I think there were four bolts or so and two did latch into the bottom of the trunk, but there were others bolted to the frame. It's perfectly solid and I use it ALL the time. The yakima rack curves when it comes out of the hitch so it gives added clearence compared to a thule. I bought the lock kit with the rack and it's worked perfect.

I usally only carry one bike, but i have used it for two with zero issues.

I don't track the car so I wasen't worried about weight and you hardly notice the hitch when the rack isn't installed.

Other things to take note. My car is a 2001 with HKS exhaust and lowered 1.5 or so and everything fit perfect.

Best of luck to you.

(I would do everything the same if I did it over)
