Thumbs down Blown S2000 Engines

[B] Has any S2000 owner had this problem?

I was the proud owner of a 2006 Black Honda S2000 until the con rod broke and went thru the block. She has done 30 000 km

Did you misshift? Perhaps put the car into 2nd when you meant to hit 4th.

If you destroyed your engine, they don't cover it under warranty.

And yes, many owners have destroyed their engines under warranty.

Inevitably it was their fault.

Sometimes the Honda dealer will "good faith" warranty it.

But usually not.

what reason did they give for not covering it?

What were you doing when you blew the motor ? (racing?)

I know in some other new hondas, the dealership can connect to the ECU and find out exactly what was happening when the motor blew...for example, a kid would bring in a 06 civic si w/ a blown motor and try to warranty it, but the ecu showed that it was over revved when it blew = no warranty.

Maybe they didn't like him because he was a Honda owner.

Over-rev is mechanical. Rev-limiter won't help the engine if you shift 3rd at redline and go into 2nd when you meant for 4th gear.

That is how the S2k engine goes from an "over-rev". You are correct. You can bounce of the rev-limiter all day and it won't over-rev that way.

FWIW, Honda customer service just sucks IMO.

I bought my 03 with 18k on it and at 28k, the motor was toast. "Low on oil..." well, i tried to prove it was by no means my fault, but to no avail... I ended up having to foot the cost of a new lower end out of pocket.

And to my credit, i have ZERO oil consumption issues now... So I'm still convinced there was something wrong with my engine before I purchased it.

In the US, 2006 cars have a record in the ECU showing the max RPM the car has hit. If that is the same in UAE, there shouldn't be any guesswork involved. Just check and see if the car has been overreved or not.
