I gave up on the boot 'cause 1) it took too much room in the trunk and 2) it defeats the 6 second up/down of the top. The car looks better with the boot but I prefer function to fashion...

yup...in my entire ownership of the S, I've only tried to stick the boot on once...Couldn't get it on and never tried again...

Weather is too unpredictable and I don't live in an area I'd feel comfortable leaving my S with the top down

If the top is going to be up and down, e.g., shopping trips, I go without. If its going to be down for the day the boot is on. I agree that the boot gives the car a much more finished look. Also it protects the top when it is in the down position

I used it 10% of the time the first year I had the car.. it has not been touched in over two years now. This is another area where Honda went cheap compared to other manufacturers that integrated it into the top design.

If my top is down, the boot is on - 100% of the time. I agree that it is a pain in the butt, but so far my window looks perfect after almost 2 years. I also use a home built "Miata Tube" with a tail on it to keep the window from rubbing on itself when folded. The boot really helps keep dust and dirt out of the roof well.

I really wish that Honda had done a design similar to the Corvetts roof where the cowl in front of the trunk tilted rearward, the roof was retracted, then the cowl is lowered. That would look nice.

Three things:

1. For those of us with MY00 & 01, it helps keep the plastic rear window clean as well as the inside part of the top.

2. It will help in any sort of vandalism that some passerby might try to do to the inside of the top.

3. It makes the car look better.

Used my cover exactly once in the two years I've owned the car. As I live in NJ, it's really not safe to leave the car parked anywhere with the top down. If it's not the weather or thieves, it's the birds.
