a mechanic told me that the SS braided lines need more frequent inspections at to their condition, almost to the point of race car use. i thought that was a bit excessive. I suppose the problem is that you cannot simply examine the line to see if it is damaged.

Also when changing pads, do not let the caliper just hang by the SS line, as fraying and damage could result.

It sound like for a daily driver it just might not be worth it. I was told by switching to better pads and braided lines would give about 70% of the capability of a big brake kit. It sounds like it would be a hassle if you had to constantly check it.

If this is strictly a daily driver, the only real effect you'll see from a brake upgrade will be bling bling. Not sure who claims 70% of big brake kit capability with upgraded lines, but that's pretty far from the truth. As it stands you'll have a tough time exceeded the capabilities of the stock brakes with the rubber currently on the rims...if you engage ABS during hard braking, your brakes are gripping tight enough, it's your rubber patch size that might need increasing.

SS braided lines don't require any special attention. I know plenty of people that have put them on cars and motorcycles. Triumph even uses them on their bikes from the factory. If they were such a liability, manufacturers would not use them and would not be DOT approved. The only reason why rubber lines are used is because they are cheap compared to the braided lines. All you really get out of them besides the bling bling factor is a little firmer pedal feel since they don't expand like the rubber. You also want to get a high quality line, not the cheapies, make sure you get DOT approved ones as well.

Lanbrown,

Don't care about the Bling Bling. But I do like the feel of a firmer brake line.
I am considering the Stoptech lines from one of our sponsors for $117. Still trying to weigh out the OEM pads vs the Hawks. They are about $40 more for the set.

Thanks
