Default burned clutch and rev limiter

I am new to this forum but have enjoyed everthing I have read. I do have a coulple of questions, some stupid and some really stupid. First, this car was the first manual I learned to drive and in the process of learning I came to more than a few harsh stalls getting into first. I was wondering what kind of wear that would cause coming to a bucking stall. I now drive much better it took a couple of days but now I'm ok.

Second, while I'm in reverse I feather the clutch but sometimes I get a strong shuttering I am guessing is because I'm not giving enough gas or has the clutch out too far. What is the proper way to prevent this.

Third, Sometimes while shifting into first or first to second I get a mild bucking that goes away once I let off the gas and was wondering what causes that.

And lastly I did something bad tonight which is why I wrote this post. I was at a stop light and rev up to about 7000 and went into first, the car reved to about 9000 as I pulled away and then something strange happened. I was at 8500 rpm and pushed the clutch in shifed into second let it out and bounced off the rev limiter about four or five time while I tried to figure out what happened. Once it settled down and I drove off I could smell what I imagine was the clutch smell I've read about. (What an aweful headache inducing smell.) As I drove around everthing seemed ok but I wonder if I did any damage and if so what to look for. I am guessing that if the rev limiter did its job the engine should be ok and so far the clutch feels fine. Will I start the car in the morning to find a world of problems or should evrything be ok since nothing has shown up yet and to just be more careful.

I know this is long and I know this has been addressed in previous posts but I am a newbie and a nervouse dad of a 2001 S2000.

One last thing, it is a 2001 grand prix while with red and black inside, it has the front oem spoiler and came with the hardtop and had 4023 miles. I paid 30,500 for it and wonder if that was a fair price.

Thank you for your time.

Mike

Slow speed stalls as in trying to move off in 1st gear should do no permanent harm. Just don't continue to do it for weeks on end.

Shuttering in reverse - a little more gas, don't let out the clutch so fast (it shouldn't be all the way out until you get some speed but in reverse, you're normally going that fast).

Mild bucking - you're shifting too soon. Wait till the engine speed is higher before shifting. Sounds like you're almost stalling after the shift.

The high rev, clutch out, no forward movement thing - This is what typically happens when you "burn" your clutch. You've taken off a couple of layers of clutch material (that's what you smell). A couple of times and you'll probably still be OK but don't keep doing it. See "seung's" links to see what happens when you "cook" your clutch.

As for a fair price. Can't say. I'm Canajun, eh!

Just keep practicing buddy it's the better way to learn !!!
Your clutch had a major slip ??...Just one or two ???... No problem ! You probably glased it a little bit and it will be ok after a while !!
If you want to avoid shuttering in reverse or any gear is to give a little more amount of gaz and to increase this amount as the clutch is engage ....When you feel the clutch grabbing if you stay with the same amount of gaz you will probably stall or have a shuttering as your engine rev. is going down by the car inertia !!

Don't worry to much, but repeated abuse will cause damage. If you want to start with a 7K clutch drop, make sure to DROP the clutch. What happened is that you let the clutch out slow enough that it heated up and never caught to launch the car. Next time literally rev to 7K and drop the clutch. DROP means, release the clutch as quick as you can. Some people say you have to side step (slip sideways to release the clutch), but that's not true. Just try and remove you foot as fast as you can. Image kicking a soccer ball, but in reverse. That brief moment of impact (or clutch engagement) is what you're looking for.

Have fun, enjoy, and try not to create any more headache causing clutch odors.

Cheers,

Thank you all for your help. I will try your suggestions and will be more careful next time around. By the way, all of you are right, this is an awesome car to own.

Mikes -

Tell me how your clutch drop goes, I have been to scared to get my up that high and drop it cause I cannot afford to fix it. Ha ha. Enjoy the car though, I love mine more everyday.
