I know what you mean about the FI. It is just really tempting for a few thousand extra now vs 6k+ later for a SC or turbo. I don't want to get over my head though but I know I would quickly learn about the car after owning it. Also the price I said is kind of what I wanted to pay. I wouldn't be taking out any loans or anything like that. It is just my ideal range. Also Ill have a second car for the winter anyway so if something goes wrong it isn't like ill be without transportation. But I like your advice I'm just still on the fence lol.

and I have those posts per day cuz I joined today to make this post and before just viewed without being a member. since it is less then a day it makes the ppd more than actual posts I made.

^ hummm if that in case. I'd would buy if owner can show you most of paper works.
I will ask...
- Compression test
- Parts were new ? or used?
- Oil/fluid change info
- who Tuned? and When? ( one of important and find a tuner's review )
- who installed?
- any smoke comming out from exhaust?

I pref ask local member(who has FI or knows well) or local S2k shop to look over for you. If owner can answer any questions and show/do what you ask, i don't see why not to try play gamble.

I'm sure i'm missing couple more questions, but that's all i can think of in my head.

Have you ever driven an s2000? I'd recommend test driving one or two before you decide it needs mods right out of the gate. It's definitely not a civic.

FWIW, I bought my 2004 with 54k on the odometer for $18k with 36k mile additional warranty from the dealer.

That is a good point, the car can be a handful stock so with FI it could be more then anticipated. Also you may not like all the mods that are on the car which could be mods that are irreversible.

Note i did not say more then you can handle as i do not know your driving background and skills.

I payed a bit more, but felt it was worth it for the condition.

It's just a lot cheaper to buy a used modded car.
The general rule of thumb is to avoid modded cars unless you're very familiar with the car's history (i.e. you know the owner and how he/she took care of the the car) as they have a tendency to have been driven harder than their stock counterparts. No guarantees there, of course.

There really aren't that many major issues. It's mostly a matter of test driving to determine if the S is for you.

Not to mention i would rather have a 9k redline
So you test drove an AP1 and an AP2? Or are you spec sheet racing?

I just don't see a need to spend $10000 more on the same car with same miles that will last forever anyway just because it newer.
An AP2 shouldn't be $10K more unless maybe you're comparing a 2001 to a 2009.

YMMV but I would consider VSA to be worth considering.

You won't get a warranty with a FI vehicle at a decent price. I would stick to the Honda dealerships and find a cpo (don't know why I always say poc) and get the extended warranty for fairly cheap (I was able to get employee pricing on my extended warranty through my dealer since I have bought all my Hondas from them).

FI can be tricky and you run a real risk of losing the engine if not careful. If done right, there really aren't any issues, but done outside of right could mean a world of hurt. A little piece of mind goes a long way when buying used, at least, it did for me (especially since this was my first used car ever).

[QUOTE=erikvanden,Mar 30 2010, 03:05 PM]

I do like that Idea of buying an 04 or 05. They should be in my price range. Also how would I get a CPO? would I have to buy it from a honda dealer?

I test drove one s2k. It was an AP1 stock. It wasn't slow by any means but I wouldn't mind the extra power of FI. I agree with not getting mods I don't want but it looks like people tend to get the same mods at least performance wise. There isn't much selection for the s2ks or room for improvement. Any more questions or things I should know if I end up looking for an FI car?
