i would highly suggest staying away from a performance modded car. performance mods are almost always a sign that the car was run hard. not necessarily abused, but likely run hard on a regular basis.

also, if this is gong to be your first sporty RWD car, i would suggest you keep the power mods at by for a while and learn how the car handles, especially at the limits. once you get used to the car, if you still think it needs more power go for it. i just think that as a youngish driver its a good idea to have a somewhat under powered car for your first RWD car.

all that said, i don't know you or your experience, so you might be a great driver with lots of RWD knowledge, so go get the car you want. what ever you end up getting have fun with it, respect it, and learn the limits of it in a safe environment.

another thing that you'll hear a lot around here is not to lift off throttle or brake mid corner, especially in an AP1. thats how most spins happen.

enough of my babbling, have fun, be safe, and good luck finding the right car. these things are fun as hell!

Well I use to have a mustang and I used that for Autox and it had a lot more torque than the s2k. So I am used to driving RWD cars at there limits. Although the s2k limits are very high stock.

I know what you mean about the performance mods. Ill have to look into it more. I just know some people buy the car used throw a ton of stuff on it then sell it after ten thousand miles. Also does anyone know roughly how much it costs to get a SC setup with a tune and everything that is needed for it to run? I just want to know what I am looking at if I buy an NA car and look for FI down the road. Just a ball park estimate. Some cars u can get it for a couple thousand and some are a 20thousand depending on the car.

I know it would be better to buy a stock car and mod it as I go, it is just a lot less expensive to buy one with the mods. but I am still on the fence about it all. Thank you guys for your input so far. I greatly appreaciate it.

Pass on cars that have performance mods and look for cars that have mild suspension and body mods (wheels ,HT's even brakes).

Ok. well are there really any other engine mods other than FI? Intakes and exhaust really don't give any power increase and are more for looks and sound. The engine is already about as good as it gets for NA. I mean what? almost 120HP per liter. Not much more room for improvement.

For mods I am really just looking for 17 or 18in wheels with springs and suspension to go with it. That would save me about $2000 right there. I would also want intake and exhaust and maybe some appearance stuff depending on what the car looked like. Also maybe an after market clutch and flywheel. Other than that I don't see a reason to get anything else other than maybe breaks or something. The car handles good and the only thing it lacks is power and the only way to get it is FI.

Also I am very confused about how these cars are tuned with FI and in general. Do you have to buy a new ECU? I assume you need to get the car tuned with a turbo what what about a SC? I have looked at what people say u need to have FI and I never see a tuner or ecu listed. On previous cars I have owned I was always able to buy an after market tuner and change the settings with it or load tunes onto it from a tuner (a person not the device). It doesn't appear like these are availible for s2ks though. So what i am wondering is how does the tuning process work and what do you need to buy for it?

You like short cut style

I listed on previous post what you have to ask to owner, if you are end up buying an FI S2K.

Btw, your last questions...you can find them here. Spend your time, if you are serious want to learn S2000 FI. .

I have spent the last few days in that forum. There is a lot on info in there but I don't have an S2k yet or SC so I don't really know a lot about what people are talking about because it tends to be about something spicific. I was going to start a thread in there asking about FI but I didn't want to clog up the forums. Most of what I know is from reading the vortech SC install manual for the s2k. It is just hard to see a general picture of everything.

I also have seen used SCs for sale on these forums. It seems like a lot of people part out there SC or turbo before they sell or if they need some cash. I was also thinking about buy a used NA car and having money left over then in 6-12 months buying a used kit since they seem to be about 3k vs a 6k used kit. I know used sounds sketchy but it is very common for people to buy used SCs with other cars. s2ks just haven't been around long enough and there aren't enough of them to have a good used market yet.

Erik you sound a lot like me. I'm 22, just got out of college and have been wanting to buy an S for a couple years now. I'm looking to spend about the same amount as you too. I should be able to get mine within a month (fingers crossed). I'm not looking to spend quite as much, $13k would be pushing it for me. I've got a WRX right now and that is going to stay as my winter car.
I've had the same kinds of questions on my mind that you were wondering about, so this was a helpful thread for me too.

Good luck finding the right S for you!

Lol. I was just going to get a beater for the winter or I have access to an explorer for the winter If I want it. (I didn't drive my old car in the winter either) But it has taken me a long time to save and decide what I wanted. I originally wanted a 350z but after a lot of research and test drives I think the S is for me because it is fun and not a pig.

OK. Well today and yesterday I test drove a few others. Including the RX8 and 350Z. honestly I would be ok with the s2k or either of those. All different but I like all 3 of them but I think I still like the S2k the best. Its the only one that is actually a sports car and is reliable + a convertable.

Also I think I am going to go with a mostly stock car not FI. I want to spend around 13K and get the newest and lowest milage s2k for that amount. I said Almost stock because I would really want a lowered car with nice wheels because that would save me 2K cuz that is going to be my first mod. Also an exhaust intake or flywheel would also be nice.

So where do I look. There is basically nothing in my state at the moment. I have been looking at this sit and came up with.

Good deals? bad deals? One is close enough for me to pick up in person and would save me shipping costs but no longer has aftermarket wheels

Those all look decent and have fairly reasonable price tags. The decision is truly yours whether or not you want to risk purchasing a high-performance vehicle with no warranty.
