I'd say option 2, since it sounds like you really dont care if you have the glass window or not. Rather than giving them your car for $1000, either keep it and use it as a beater or sell it outright.

#4 is off the list now.

So its down to either #2 or #1.

I am going to go talk to the dealership about #2 and see if they can get me what I ask for it.

I am putting down $12500, plus about $1000 for my trade hopefully(its really only worth about $500 or so)

So after taxes I am wanting to get it for around $20000($400 less than what they are asking) - $12500 down = $7500 financed.

Should I ask for more off?

Also, what should I look for while I am there?

What should I ask about while I am there?

Thanks

Probably not on an 00, and probably expensive if you can. Also, check service history. AND, as an owner of an 01, searching for an '02 is definately a recomendation i would give. The interior is more comfortable, they have component speakers upfront, and the glass rear window is important. With the majority of convertible drivers out there, you will eventually want the top up, and during rainy/cold months, it will be up constantly. The plastic rear window is impossible to tint /well/, I do have mine tinted, but up close it looks terrible. The added leather, upgraded oil bolts, improved clutch (rattle), and /glass rear window/ make the 02 a much more comfortable car, especially if you're using it for a daily driver.

If you do choose an 00 or 01, keep the del Sol for a daily/nasty weather driver.

cold weather, thats like 70 in florida
And as far as rain goes, thats just in the afternoon while I am at work/school and my car is in the garage.

But I need to atleast drive an 02 and then go to an 01 right away to see if the different feel will bother me.

I guess I am at the point where I am about to buy this one unless people think I can get an 02 with low miles(around 20k) for around $20,000(cant spend more, im a poor college kid)

Anyways, thanks for the advice and any future advice.

Coursevector,

Funny...I picked up my 03 from a Dodge dealership......

you can definately negotiate with them. They make so much on trade ins or cars picked up from auctions.

Also you are purchasing a used car which costs more than some of the new cars they sell at the dealership.....

The dealer I went to was asking 24.5K.....
I got him down to 22K........... KBB trade in for an 03 mint is ~22.5K

Wholesale value on these cars are not as high as people expect so you can definately low ball them....

What do you have to lose......go in and give some really low figure and work up.
You already assume that they will only move a couple hundred dollars......they have plenty more room for sure.
They may laugh and not consider it, but they will call you back for sure.

Oh....what's another 2K loan if you are going to take a lone already?

You should get an 02 or higher...I don't think anyone who has an 00-01 would disagree on the improvements....

why buy something today knowing that it doesn't have these updates? You've got the crystal ball's answer which the 00-01 owners probably didn't know about when they bought their new....

mostly cause Im a college student that wants it paid off by the time I graduate and only getting a loan for 7000. 9000 would make it very hard for me to get done by the time I graduate. But I am considering wait a while till I find an 02 that will work for me. Just depends on what I can get the 01 for.
