I never bought a car from a smoker, but the previous owners of my house where smokers. I steam cleaned the wall paper off of everywhere when I first moved in and the brown gunk on the plaster walls took a triple wash with TSP. After I washed the entire house, I had no problems with residual smell. I wouldn't even let my ex-mother-in-law smoke inside when she came to visit. She met her early death due to heavy smoking. I didn't like visiting her at her house because her place stank of cigarette smoke.

Hotel rooms charge an arm and a leg if a smoker smokes in a non-smoking room. It CAN be cleaned up and deodorized, but it's a lot of work. The human lung will do its best to recover, if a person stops smoking.

As a smoker, I've never once had anyone even mention the smell. Then again, 98% of smoking done in the car, was done with the top down. So it really never even had a chance to linger. With the top down you could smoke a carton a day in the car, and you wouldn't know based on smell.

Has the OP even seen the car in person, enough to know if this issue is an issue? Or are we just benchmarking sensory interpretation through the internet, without any actual investigation?

Burn and ash marks? That's a problem, but as far as smell, you should def be able to get the smell out..

Saw a guy smoking in a brand new (obviously) F-RS this morning and thought of this thread. Such a stupid thing to do, especially if you ever plan to sell your car.

At least farts don't give you cancer and heart disease, age your skin, shorten your life, foul your breath, stink up your skin, hair and clothes. Geeze, the science has been around for years? What's not to understand?

My brother had my car for about 2 years, and probably smoked in it every day for the entire time. To tell the truth, after a while, it still smells like how it did when I first bought it. Like leather(just like a few people mentioned).

I bought an S2000 oem hardtop that someone had at one time smoked under.
Didn't notice it until I had the top on, and the windows closed for a few days.
I had to take the tops headliner off to reglue a clip, so I cleaned it all when it was apart.
Good to go now.
I think ex-smokers like myself are more sensitive to the smell.
