Buying a s2k, Opinions.
Hey guys, I was just looking around and happened to find this site. Im close to closing a deal on a s2k and becoming a Honda owner (something I swore i would never do). But oh well, times change right?. Anyhow Im a former mitsu owner, I own a 1998 Eclipse GSX, A fair amount under the hood (enough for 400hp). I'll leave it at that. Anyhow I have finally decided to buy a car to get me from A to B in style and with some decent power. Something I dont have to worry about breaking down every 10 seconds (like the eclipse). I have come across a nice s2k and wanted your opinions and wondering if it was a good deal.
The car is a 2001 in i guess you guys call it a silverstone metallic. It has black leather interior, and currently has 20k on the odometer and is a local one owner car trade in at my local acura dealer. They are currently asking 21.995 for it. I know the salesman through a friend and he told me we could work a deal out to sub 20k. So right now im hoping for a 18-19k range. Does this seem good for a car like this. It is in excellent condition inside aswell as outside. Im going down tomorrow to test drive it and get it up on the lift so i can get a first hand undercar inspection on it. Just looking for your opinions. Im new to the honda thing but im a fast learner so please inspire me
Thanks for your time.

I have no idea about the pricing for a 2001, but I know that most people prefer the 2002 and later models because they have a glass rear window.
I have only good things to say about the S2000, although I have rather limited experience with it. I was never a Honda fan either ... but I that's because I was a German car snob. I've never heard of a Mitsubishi owner who looked down their nose at Hondas.
In any event, if you are going to buy a Japanese car, the S2000 is the best of the bunch.
Out of curiosity, which Acura dealer is this? I'm in the area (although not in the market, so don't worry).

Welcome to the site. All years of the S2000 are good, Honda is quick to react and has made a few changes over the years. Here are several helpful threads that explain some of the differences:

I just purchased MY01 Red a couple months ago.
It had 13.5k miles on it. Perfect condition.
Paid $22.9
It's a great car, fast & a blast to drive. Lov it!
Plastic window doesn't bother me, I drive with the top down most of the time.
Your deal looks very good to me!
Good luck...

I have a MY00. After owning it for a year, I will say that it would be nice to have a MY02 or higher for the glass rear window, but I do not regret buying a MY00 at all.
It sounds like that car would be a good deal. If all checks out right with it, I'd jump at it.
Good luck.

I had an 01' and hated the plastic window and wanted the other changes, so I traded it in for an 03'. I'm much happier now.
You should be able to get an 01' with that mileage and in good shape for $19K-$21K.
I purchased mine with 22K miles for $21,300 back in Feb and traded it in three months later.
