C6... why?
I'm fortunate to own both - 2000 S2000 and 2005 C6 coupe (both first year models)...I really don't believe that these cars have anything in common...the best description for the C6 is above - "beast".....and another poster is correct about the suspect reliability of the vette - I know it's a first year model but fuel sender unit problems that go back to the C5 days, steering lock on column that unlocks when it wants to, the targa top becoming unglued and flying off is hard to stomach for a 50K car....but....bash the engine as "old" all you want, the 400 horses and 400 ft lbs torque are incredible, the styling is great, and the interior is light years ahead of previous models...and a V8 that gets 28mpg on the highway.....i don't enjoy it as a daily driver but its a great highway cruiser
on the Honda, a plastic rear window on the early models was just cheap on honda's part, a flawed top design that results in worn tops on all models eventually, mystery low idleing, and a timing chain tensioner that will eventually fail as well, oil burning, broken valve retainers, 2nd gear synchro issues so this is no reliability jewel either....that being said, the shifter is incredible, the steering is the quickest i've ever encountered, the weight and size is just right, and a 9000 redline in spite of a spartan interior is an enthusiast's dream...and timeless styling and the last good looking car that Honda has built.....a great driver but tough for long highway drives...and very rare to see on the road.
again, these cars should not be compared to each other...both are fantastic in their own way and enthusiasts will be delighted by either one...with the drop in sales and heavy discounting on the C6, garage queens are available in the 25 - 30K range, which is a great value.....and you can do the same on the honda for 10K less

What I'd like to post here is simply "OP is an idiot", but that's just trolling/mean. If you don't understand what is appealing about a Corvette then, obviously, you are not a car enthusiast. The Corvette is very much a real sports car and it possesses many of the same qualities that endear the S2000 in our hearts. Those qualities are just manifested in a more extreme package than they are in the S2000.

What gives me a hardon about the c6. Lets see....400hp/400ftlbs factory. Oh, mods actually do something beside drain your wallet. They add power, and a LOT of power for very little money.
The interior on the vette was lacking in the precision department. The one I drove for a couple days was a targa and that damn top squeaked like I couldn't believe. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't hear the same squeaks on the S2k over the wind and tire noise.

Damn, I got called out, feeling kinda douchy now, lol. Check my profile if you want to know how old I am.
But anyway, how could any real car enthusiast say that the S2000 and the Corvette do not appeal to the same automotive desires? You also demonstrated that you don't know the facts regarding the engine of the Corvette, because it is in fact light weight, especially for it's displacement. The LS engine also has a very low parts count and is very efficient. The Corvette also is not over weight. It is simply heavier than the S2000 because it larger and has more power, which means that it needs bigger brakes, wheels/tires, heavy duty transmission/drivetrain, etc...Everything on the car needs to be built bigger and stronger to handle the increased power and cornering loads that the car generates. The cheap interior is a given because of the car's price. A Ferrari level interior would raise the price substantially. The Corvette also has a great racing history and is a name plate with real cache.

Here's the real problem,we have a (car talk) forum for cars other than the S2000 and people use forums that are dedicated for S2000 for what ever and that upsets some. Oh btw I love all cars and since we're already talking about it here the C6 is an awsome machine.
What is there not to like about the C6. It is reasonably priced, is decently reliable, it is extremely powerful and has globs of torque, it gets decent MPG's, it responds well to mods, OH and did i mention its a corvette?
The LS engine i beleive only weighs 125 lbs more than the f20c, but has double the hp and three times the torque. Of course its heavier than the s2000, it is a bigger car but by no means is it s heavy car.
I will agree that the vette has a somewhat cheap interior, but people dont buy it because of its luxury.
I would trade my s for a C6 in a heart beat but thats just me

I've been reading forums here for a while. And some of you are always talking about buying a Corvette, if you could find a deal and bla bla bla.
Where does that come from? I am just curious. We are S2k fans, owners, and lovers. And the ONLY common feature between the S2k and the Corvette is the performance/price ratio. That's it.
I did not buy an S2k because of the performance/price ratio. I bought it for its refinement, quality, fun to drive, because of its top-down feature, light weight etc. And when I will be looking for a real sport car, I will probably be considering a used Ferrari, NSX, or any other real exotic.
With all the respect I have for you guys, could you please tell me what you find so exciting about the Corvette with its over weight, push rod engine, unprecise shifter, GM-poor interior, etc.?
Don't talk about pricing. I know it is cheap for the performance it gives you... but on top of that, what really gives you a hard-on?

And no offense, but I kind of laughed when you said you bought the S2000 for its refinement. What car did you come from? Just kidding that was a rhetorical question, but the S2000 is hardly refined, and to me that's part of its charm. It's very cramped and has a spartan interior, but it all goes along together to form that F1 inspired theme. The S2000 is definitely fun to drive, but I don't think that's because it's a convertible either, although that doesn't hurt.
I am surprised you would consider the C6 overweight. I actually think it's really light. I mean look at the M3 or, hell GTR. The Corvette has a great engine, who cares if it's old technology or not. That's just letting your preconceived notions get in the way of enjoying something great. I mean the new Mustang GT still has a live axle, but who the hell cares, it can get around Laguna Seca in the same time as an M3. As long as it gets the job done, I don't care at all how it does it.
I'll admit that I don't know anything about the shifter, and I haven't sat in one so I can't tell you if it's actually good to drive. But, just from the specs and reading articles on it, it sounds like a great car. It's incredible value for one, it looks good, although I do wish they would update the design, and it sounds awesome. Interior sucks, but I don't care, if I got one I'd get rid of the interior anyway and get some aftermarket seats. The handling is really top notch too, and just like the S, it's not easy to drive, which adds to the fun.
