C6... why?
I'd love to do the Museum tour in Bowling Green.
When I was about 10 years old my Uncle took me for a blast on the highway in his 74 Corvette, I friggin fell in love with it that very minute, nothing inspired me more as a younster than being in that car. 30 years later I went to look at some used Corvettes, unfortunately they all looked and drove like 40 year old cars and not quite like the sensation I had when I was 10 years old. I determined that I couldn't take on a project car at this stage in my life so I went for an S2000 which has always been a favourite of mine, easy to fix anything on this car with ease. I love all Corvettes but I prefer to own an S2000 right now, which I love equally.

I've been reading forums here for a while. And some of you are always talking about buying a Corvette, if you could find a deal and bla bla bla.
Where does that come from? I am just curious. We are S2k fans, owners, and lovers. And the ONLY common feature between the S2k and the Corvette is the performance/price ratio. That's it.
I did not buy an S2k because of the performance/price ratio. I bought it for its refinement, quality, fun to drive, because of its top-down feature, light weight etc. And when I will be looking for a real sport car, I will probably be considering a used Ferrari, NSX, or any other real exotic.
With all the respect I have for you guys, could you please tell me what you find so exciting about the Corvette with its over weight, push rod engine, unprecise shifter, GM-poor interior, etc.?
Don't talk about pricing. I know it is cheap for the performance it gives you... but on top of that, what really gives you a hard-on?

One thing that bothers me is that they make it in automatic. Everybody wants a sporty car but most don't want to learn how to drive manual. What ends up happening is that 80% of used cars are automatic, and you have a bunch of women and douche bags buying them for the status symbol. The same thing happened to the 350z. Most of them you see on the road are driven by people that don't give a crap about driving a true sports car or the community.
I had to do a face palm when I heard they were making the new Jeep Wranglers with 2wd as an option. Same principle.

^thats not a legitimate reason not to like a car IMO. Because you CAN get it in automatic. Some people like the convenience of auto, maybe they wanna daily it. Hell sometimes I get tired of shifting all the time but I don't mind cause this is the only option for the s2k.

The S would certainly have sold MANY MORE if offered in auto, and still may have survived and be in production today. Sales were limited due to it being manual, and Honda knew that, and it's what they wanted. That being said, I'm not gonna criticize sports cars like the 350z and Corvette for being offered in auto. They can be driven fast by any driver with no skill needed in a straight line. I drove an auto c5 back in the day and remember thinking "man, this is just too easy to go fast in".
I admit, I drool when I drive by the dealership and see a Yellow C6 Convertible. However, I just love my S too much to even consider parting with it for a Vette. I do love the new Vette though. Always have, always will. They are just too common for me, and I like a lower production car.

Part of me wholeheartedly agrees that true sports cars are manual shift. That part is the purist in me, and the part that truly appreciates the fantastic gearbox the S has.
Those automakers with such storied racing heritage did not do it with automatics back in the day. Times change though...and so do some age old truths. When a dual clutch auto can snap off a shift in miliseconds, match revs on downshifts, and make it easier for the driver to concentrate on placing the vehicle on the line they want......is that not a good thing?
The point can be argued....I think there are valid cases on both sides, so I'm content to state the point and to each their own.
Back on topic....
Like others have said, these two are very similar, but dissimilar cars. I think both are true sports cars, just on opposite ends of the spectrum. I love my S and have no plans on trading it on anything. I would like the chance to live with a vette for a while, and see how the other half lives. I just got the chance to drive an Audi RS6 this week, and I must say.....having that much torque is refreshing.
No reason we could not enjoy both.
Really, the Corvette is one of only three logical upgrades from the S2000, IMO. If you want another sports car, the options are basically Corvette, Porsche 987, or Elise. Everything else is either a lot more expensive (911, Ferrari), not as true of a sports car (Z4, SLK), or not much of an upgrade (TT, 370Z, RX-8.) I'd likely pick the Boxster of those three options, but I'd give a C6 a good, long look before choosing.
First, this shouldn't be in S2000 Talk.
Second, the C6 is a great car, its a different type of car than an S, but its close enough to make a comparison. C6 GS is on my short list of cars but I prefer less weight/better greenhouse to hp/torque monster.
