C6... why?
Really, the Corvette is one of only three logical upgrades from the S2000, IMO. If you want another sports car, the options are basically Corvette, Porsche 987, or Elise. Everything else is either a lot more expensive (911, Ferrari), not as true of a sports car (Z4, SLK), or not much of an upgrade (TT, 370Z, RX-8.) I'd likely pick the Boxster of those three options, but I'd give a C6 a good, long look before choosing.
There are very few real affordable sports cars out there. Vette is one, Boxster is another.
Being a car enthusiast, I liked the Corvette, until I drove one. Why?
1. Imprecise shifter, does not belong to a sports car.
2. Interior looks OK but fit and finish is horrible (door panel shakes when you shut the door)
3. I daily drive the S2000, happily. I wouldn't drive a C6 daily. Outside view from inside is hideous, and it's a big car. Maybe OK for highway cruising.
4. I don't enjoy low RPM high Torque engines. I like sport bikes, not cruisers or trucks.
---------
I liked the Nissan Z, until I drove one. All the extra power goes to hauling that fast ass it shares with G35 and M35. It's a sporty car at best.

What I'd like to post here is simply "OP is an idiot", but that's just trolling/mean. If you don't understand what is appealing about a Corvette then, obviously, you are not a car enthusiast. The Corvette is very much a real sports car and it possesses many of the same qualities that endear the S2000 in our hearts. Those qualities are just manifested in a more extreme package than they are in the S2000.
S2000 and C6 corvette....both great bangs for the buck (A lot of car for the money).
If I were to ever by a GM it would be the C6 but with the way fuel prices are going I'll be keeping my need for power and torque to 2 wheeled vehicles!

The performance for the dollar cannot be matched. A used LS2 C6 goes for 25k and that gets you a reliable 400 and 400 torque bone stock. With bolt on mods you can easily put down 400 reliable NA wheel horsepower. The LS motors may be old tech but they are tried and proven and take a shit load of abuse. The corvette is a performance bargain and it looks good to boot. Sure the interior and fit and finish is so so but who buys a sports cad for those reasons? The z06 is 300 lbs heavier than an s2000 and at 3100 lbs I wouldn't necessarily call it overweight. I understand you may not like corvettes but it's rather stupid if you don't see why many of us do.
My next car will be a C6 z06 without a doubt. I love my s2000 but Its going bye bye when it comes time to upgrade to the vette.

Wow there certainly is some "fanboyism" and unrealistic posts here.....as mentioned above, the S2000 would have been an epic seller if it were auto. OI would have bought manual. But to general public an Auto is more sensible for traffic (by general public I am referring to non-car enthusiasts). Secondly, the Z06, and ZR1, are manual only and as far as corvettes are concerned, those are the models enthusiasts buy. Not always the case what with open top lovers etc.
For me, the power, torque, mod-ability, I would only buy 08+ due to refined steering/transmission/LS3, etc. Everyone on Corvetteforum.com knows that the 08+ is the year to buy if you can.
Also, bare in mind the typical corvette owner (track). Most use 1/8 or 1/4 mile tracks rather than circuits or autoX (there are plenty that do though), having an Auto transmission allows for more consistant track times and no costs to replace the clutch frequently.
Frankly, as many have mentioned before me, I am a car enthusiast. And as the OP mentions, he knows the car is a great bang for the buck. In relevance though, the Vette is comparable to the S2000 in more ways than cost/performance. They are similar in "status" as well. Many other 2-door verts think their cars are better because they have more power than the S and can go faster in a straightline and also the S2000's true competitors are more expensive cars, likewise the Vette also competes with more expensive cars.
As for the comments about the interior of the Vette, well think about the selling point of the Vette. It certainly is not "Audi-esque" and they aknowledge that. The C7 is mainly going to have a refined interior and chevrolet has their sights set at Audi quality for this next gen.
Which brings me right back to where I started, the bang for the buck comparison. The Vette is going to be much better priced assuming this new generation Vette can bring what is being asked of it. (Probably not, every random photochop they all hate on that forum, some of which I think aren't bad....I am just interested in the interior improvements).
