Anything 30 MPH over the posted limit you are suppose to be arrested for reckless driving. 30 MPH + posted limit of 70 MPH = 100 MPH.
Several years ago when the posted limit was still just 55 MPH and I was little more careless I was pulled over. The CHP officer claimed to have paced my car in excess of 105 MPH. I wasn't quite sure how fast I was going. My speedometer only went to 85 MPH and I WAS way beyond that mark. After running my licence through the computer he gave me a warning and told me he would have to arrest me if he gave me a ticket because I was more than 30 MPH over the speed limit. I felt damn lucky that night.

I don't know about CA, but in TX I believe that's the law, or at least it was back in 1975. I got stopped in my 280Z on the interstate doing 117 in a 55. The trooper was amazingly nice and gave me a ticket for 99 in a 55. He said over 100 called for arrest and a trip to the hoosgow. He may not have wanted the paperwork because it was nearly 11:00 p.m. and the end of his shift. Lucky me!

it's only 25 over in louisiana.
But most cops wont take you to jail. My uncle is a cop and it's waist alot of their time. However, they can. So I try to keep it under 95 on there interstates except for short butst to 120+
I was riding with a friend and we got stoped doing 127 in a 70. The friendly officer gave us a ticket for 94 in a 70.
I almost got a ticket for 140 on a deserted 25mph road in the middle of the night, but I beat him home and he could not prove that I was driving the car. I sat on my trunk and simply told him to get out of my yard.
I've grown up alot since then are rarely exceed 90 except on the track or in short bursts. I prefer to do 70+ in the curves that say 30

I was once pulled over on the 5, heading towards the Bay Area. I was clocked at more than 100 mph, 2 or 3 times as I recall. Luckily, I was not arrested.
Two months later, I showed up in court, in the middle of nowhere, County of Kern. The judge was reasonable, I was convicted for doing 99 mph. I asked if I could attend traffic school. He got REALLY ****ed off! I paid my fine, $332, you need to be careful...
