I haven't seen it mentioned above and probably is elementary but you should scuff up your previously painted calipers with a little sandpaper and then highly clean them before you paint over them with the new color.

Rick's was/is? offering to exchange your calipers with powder coated ones, certainly the best method for doing it but MUCH MUCH more expensive than most of us are willing to pay for similar results to spraying or G2'ing the calipers.

I'm one of the cheap guys that's had this done for over a year now having used high-temp caliper spray and Decal Girl lettering all done for less than $20.

i'd rough up the existing caliper paint with some sandpaper so the new paint will adhere better.

i thought you shouldnt grind polish the calipers because they "cast iron" from another post and that if you do they rust?? is from ur caliper picture obviously its possible and so u should recommend a type of clearcoat that survives brake heat ^^
The clearcoat is not necessary.

However, for my customers that also get the decals, I apply 2-3 coats of clearcoat over the decal and surrounding painted areas. Again, not required but a nice added touch. That way I feel a little safer when wiping over them with a sponge when cleaning the car.

The clearcoat is available at most Autozones/Kragen/etc. It is high-temp and can handle the extra heat from the brake systems. It only comes in a spray (rattle) can, but I spray it into a cup and brush it on anyway. I don't want the possibility of overspray anywhere near my car or a customers car.....so I walk very, very far away from the work area, spray into a cup, and walk back to the car to apply with a brush.

Enjoy,
Hockey
