Default Can an American buy a Canadian S2000?

Just wondering how that would work... I'm pretty sure Canadians are able to purchase autos in the US... I know that the $ factor in Canada would make the purchase more expensive...but would you have to pay a higher price or is it relative to the US dollar? Then...can you even do that if you are not a Canadian? Any special taxes or "fees" when you want to cross the border?

The reason I even throw the question out is because of the availabilty of Moonrock Metallic...which I would love to see in person...but FF2Skip has the color Moonrock Pearl from Japan and his S is simply drop-dead gorgeous...

I love my '02...but if I wanted a new S...I want a special one...a different one.

Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated! Thanks!

You can buy one, but an American dealer And American Honda can't honor the Canadian new car warranty. As long as you're fine with a new car without a warranty, go for it.

I love the moonrock too! Saw pictures of moonrock + Black/Red interior ... seriously awesome.

I would say you can do that, but may need to pay some hefty taxes and random costs (i.e. changing sun visor to Spanish/English from French/English!?!)

Slows2k may be right, AHM and Honda Canada might not work together to honor warranties. I know some ther car manufacturers do (I believe it's BMW and Mercedes), but not sure about Honda.

Airgate's in North Carolina, a bit of a drive to go north of the border when something small breaks.

Yeah sure you can, I'm not sure if you can pull off getting your GST tax back when you return but it'd be worth a shot.

Unlike buying in the US, there is no tax waiver for buying out of state, you'd pay 15% on top of purchase price. You may be able to get the 7% back when you return but I can't be certain.

Its worth a shot.

It's my impression that there is a price advantage for a Cannuck to buy a U.S. car but it may not work the other way around.
For example, the S2000 retails for around $34,000.00US. This converts to about $38,000.00Cdn by todays exchange.
Now, the other way. The S costs about $50,000.00Cdn. This converts to about $45,000.00US.
Doesn't seem worth it to me (for an American to buy a Canadian car). You can buy yourself a pretty good "frame off" Moonrock paint job for $10K.

I agree, you'd be better off just getting the car painted. You'd only have to do the exterior, as your car now is already silver and wouldn't look that out of place inder the hood and all.

AHM doesn't honor Honda of Canada's warranty. I work at a dealer that gets to inform unsuspecting car owners they bought a Canadian car, and we can't do anything under warranty for them.

The same goes for Honda's purchased in Europe.

An interesting question .................................................. .
If a Canadian pays approx. $10,000.00 MORE than an American would pay for a car like an S2000, who makes that profit? Is it the Canadian dealer or Honda Canada or Honda Corporate in Japan? Somebody gets all that extra money. It would be very revealing to see who that might be. Somebody is taking us Cannucks for a wild ride. It would be nice to know where to send the linch mob to.
