Can Car Get Chips in Paint at Speeds Under 50 MPH
My S has been sitting the entire months of December and January outside unprotecter with a six inch layer of snow that has coated the trunk and hood ( I kept clearing the roof ). I talked to my detailer and he said the the show could have acid reain and leaving it on the car is not the best thing to do but it should cause no harm that can't be buffed out.
Anyway the main point of my post is that I want to dig out the car and take it for a few miles on some single lane roads where speeds are up to 45 to 50 mph. I know at highway speeds you risk serious chips to the paing from sand when traveling at 70+ mph. Do I risk getting chips from other vehichles or even my own car at lower speeds? ( I can hear the sand hitting the muffler )
I feel I pay too much money to just leave the car sitting when I could take it for a spin if the risks were minimal. There is a little bit of salt on the roads but I figure the if the car only has 2 months left to winter and will be in storage every winter from now on that the salk will not cause any problems.
I know I am being a big baby about this bit the car has 1,400 miles and is black and I want it to look perfect for the first summer out.
P.S. Does sliding snow off of a car cause scratching? If so what is the best way to remove snow?
Thanks,
Mike

I think if you gave the G35 to me, it would make room in the garage for the S.
. The snow should have a little melt going so it glides off. I'd say lightly brush off the heavy stuff with a car wash broom, if you take it for a drive some underhood temp will lossen the stuff on the hood. Maybe you have a heated garage, you can swap cars and thaw it out?

You have to think about rocks that fly up from other cars too, theres NOTHING you can do about it. You bought the car to driive it, I'd suggest not worrying about it when you're out and about.
Well, I dug the car out of the snow and used hot water to help melt the snow on the trunk and hood, and I must say it did a great job.
I agree with ThatS2KGuy in that for all the money I am paying I should spend more time enjoying and less time worrying. In fact when I had my 2001 GPW S I waited until April to drive it and then in May I got a few nice chips even though I stored the car all winter. Chips are a risk unless I wait until July when all the sand is gone.
I am now going to go for a drive and have a good time.
P.S. Besides my fiancee just got an 04 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7L V6 and boy does it suck up the gas. 15.5 gallons got us 182 miles.
Thanks,
Mike

black was the worst color for you to get if your going to this paranoid about scratches and nicks in the paint etc. It's just a car, enjoy it for what it is and drive the crap the out of it and don't worry about it so much, its gonna get hit by rocks, by people, or just the weather. Hope the swirls don't scare you too bad in the paint, lol. Enjoy your S man, don't worry so much.
Just got back from my first ride of the day. The car is now a bit dirty from melting snow puddles and a bit of salt but it was sooo much fun to zip around again. These Bridgestone tires on the 2004 S hold very well to cold pavement. The grip was much better than my 01 S2000's S02 tires.
Well, I'm off again.....
