car died on street

the car has 22k miles on it. I asked why he put a high flow fuel pump and he said because he wanted to boost it but decided not to-
weather or not this is true I cant tell but the car does hit vtec hard and the engine feels very strong and stable.
what is this sock you are talking about? he said that you might have to turn the fuel pump so it gets an accurate reading.
does anyone have additional information on getting the fuel pump to give me an low level fuel light warning?
also the belts on the front of the engine rattle and make noise. should I take this in and have them replace the belts on the front of the engine?
---thanks
