I think that KBB uses local sales of your car recently. So like if there was a sale of your year car in your nearby area, and the price reported on the title is high, then the KBB rises. If someone underwrites to get around taxes, KBB drops. Maybe there was a massive sale for some awesome S2k in your area recently. This is just what I have read in other forums. Haven't researched the topic.

thats funny that this thread showed up, i purchased my 03 SS/Red S2k last fall for 9,500 (113k miles) which was the KBB value at the time... i was at the bar last night messing around on my Iphone, and i KBB'd my car again and it listed as 11,800 (121k miles)
looks like i lucked out! $2,300 in appreciation!
