Certified s2000 - worth it?
@grandmasterkhan I've looked though the Honda certified website to find these s2000. The one I want has 36k miles and my friend is suggesting one that has 10k miles. It cost 3k more since the milage is much lower.
After 6-8 months of looking for my car, I have seen plenty of S2000's recently and the worst ones by far were the certified cars. I watched the market like a hawk for more than half a year and often saw certified cars the day they were delivered, before the dealership had a chance to "work their magic". These were some of the worst condition cars I have come across in my entire car search. You should also compare the certified warranty with the most common issues to be found on a S2000. Getting work done off the certified warranty will be an uphill battle.
I'm not going to say you can't find a good certified car, but what I am saying is don't believe that certified cars are any better than any other used cars. The markup you pay is purely for that certified status so make sure you understand fully the certified warranty.
If you are planning on spending $27-28K I would not even consider a car with 30+K mi in the first place, that is just absurd. You can get an almost new one for that kind of money.

so my white unicorn ran away... White exterior with red interior. I went by the dealership and the guy said it was bought yesterday :/ oh we'll I'll be searching slowly now and look for a good deal.
Edit- I almost spun out when testing a stooky. Haha I forgot not to let off the gas when making a quick right turn at about30 mph LOL!

I'm thinking certified, or ANY warranty brings peace of mind.
Speaking of certified, does this car seem like a deal almost too good to be true?

I was struct by the s2k bug 3 years ago, and I had trouble with my s2k so I traded it in for a 2010 gti. Well guess what, everyone says it, you'll always come back to the S.
I was pretty screwed on my last s2k (motor and tranny issues) so I'm considering getting a Honda Certified car. My question, is it worth the extra 2 to 3 grand for a honda certified, or would a uncertified car server just as good in the long run? I just hit my 1 year mark on my gti and I put on 16,0xx miles so I will be doing the same amount of driving on the S. I've seen a MY08 with 34,0xx miles on the car for $27 ish at a stealership. its a white and red, the one I've been longing for ever since I got my MY00 BB. The question at hand is:
is it worth it for a stealership certified car?
- what benefits are received with it being certified?
- If purchased, should I get the extended warranty on the car?
Should I get a private party / non certified for about $3 - $5k cheaper and hope I dont get a dud again?

I bought mine as a CPO at my Honda dealer (only one in town too...). I didn't have to pay much more over going price (about $800). I got the extended warranty as well for next to nothing since I buy alot of Hondas from this dealership. I got the CPO because I was concerned that the car may have been beaten pretty badly by the previous owner. I came from an RSX Type S so I know they get trashed by 'younger' (not all mind you) drivers. I was not sure if the S fell into that demographic as well. The car was in good shape, I read over the certification process and had them show me the paperwork with what they did to make sure it was a true CPO and not just an oil change (this dealership used to be good but lost alot of its folks and the newer ones will do almost anything to get you to sign some papers). The only issues I had with the car so far have been the convertible top latches breaking, but the warranty took care of that. I still have a powertrain warranty to 100k miles (currently at 67k miles) and feel comfortable with what I have.
CPO is a good item if done correctly. You shouldn't be overcharged for it as it really is a multi point inspection and tune up of your car. Most of the time, the dealership will only CPO a car that is in good shape anyway, so even more peace of mind.

the warranty is nice. but the inspection is only as good as the tech who is executing it. just because it is CPO doesnt mean you can skip out on checking things out yourself. found this out the hard way, my CPO s2k came with a blown head gasket. awesome. blown head gasket + lots of travelling/time away from s2k (enlisted) = major PITA. lesson learned.
