Default Change oil folter

I'm going to be putting my car up for the winter. I will be changing my oil before I do, but do you think I really need to change the filter also? It's just gonna sit in the garage.

Id say no on the filter. Your oil isnt going to go through the filter unless there is oil pressure (the car is running) right...?

If you never drive her again, by all means leave the old dirty filter on.

However If you plan to drive your car again, relace the old Dirty filter.

You don't need to change the oil again after storage. There are some great threads on car storage in this fourm. Just do a search and you will find tons of them.

Thanks for all your advice. I guess I'll keep the ol' dirty filter on 'til spring.

If it just sits there, why need to replace the filter or oil at all? When it comes time to drive after a long sleep, then change them.

You should change before storing, the theory is the old oil might have acids and crap from the engine and it can eat away at the pan or decay stuff. Although I highly doubt it is stored long enough for anything to happen.

I would not change oil if I were not going to change filters. It is like showering and putting dirty clothes back on.
