Default Oil filter change question

Well I changed the oil for the first time on my 04 and things were going fine until I realized that I did not have an oil filter wrench small enough for the filter. As I was in a rush and didn't have time for creative filter removal tricks, I now have fresh oil running through the original filter. Anyway, I'm not worried as the car only has 3100 miles on it and I'm sure the filter is still fine. However, I'd still like to change it if I can do so without loosing much of the nice fresh Moble 1 oil I just put in.

So the question is, can I remove the oil filter on this car without loosing a lot of oil or should I just wait until the next time I do an oil change at around 6-7k miles?

You can change it and only lose the oil that's in the filter, probably less than 1/2 quart. Some of the oil will drip down along side the engine block, so you need something to catch a little oil on the garage floor beneath the filter.

How long does it take to stick a screwdriver thru it?

I would change the filter, especially since the engine is new. It will have trapped a lot of debris by now and you want new media in there to allow better flow.

As others have mentioned, it's easy to just change the filter by itself. Since it's easily accessible from the top of the engine compartment, you won't even need to put the car up to do it.

Thank's for all the replies. I'm not worried but will most likely change it when I get the chance.
