Civic to S2K
Hi everyone, my first post, normally hang out round at Civiclife.net but been eyeballing the S2K for ages however due to the usual: Age, Fuel, Redundancies, Tax / Insurance etc i hadn't really taken it seriously about getting one but started looking again...
My main question is How many people here have come from a Honda Civic to an S2k (all years but preferably EG or EK) and kept their S2k or even people who got an S2k and then decided they preferred something about their Civic more, whether that be cost to keep the S2k vs Civic or Handling etc...
Id really appreciate any feedback little or large, im trying to work out if its worth "upgrading" as parts for the Civic are cheaper and running costs are gonna be quite a bit cheaper (i assume) such as tax isn't going to go up as drastically as post 2001 cars such as my EM1 - Id guess that the S2k has a considerably beefy engine at 220bhp? but how does it handle in comparison to a front wheel drive civic thats got coilovers and setup properly...
One of my main concerns is that i always imagine RWD will try to kill you every time you go round a corner lol - Probably massively over thinking the RWD situation but its a consideration, and winter, i did acctualy manage to get about this winter in inch's of snow with a lowered EM1 on Parada Spec II so i was quite chuffed but i know a guy who thought it was a good idea to do the same last winter and decided reversing up a drive on snow was a good idea in his S2k and subsequently slid back down the drive and through his garage door and thats at 1mph LOL
I think the thing thats kick started this "i want an S2k" is that my friend went from a hot hatch to an MR2 Roadster and after sitting in it i really liked the confined space, believe it or not, iv always loved the low down look of S2k's (spesh when you do something like this to it:
So any input good or bad would be appreciated!

i used to have a 98 civic hatch before my S, now that i have sold my civic i would probably only get another one for a DD. to compare a civics' handling to an S is impossible so i wont say anymore on that subject. this is my first rwd car, when i first got it i was scared lol (i bought it in janurary and it was snowing on and off) but once you get used to it youll be fine just have to be careful in the rain/snow
I've never owned a civic but I've drivin a lot of them and I have to say everything is tighter an more mechanical feeling you feel everything more and it's all stiffer
Clutch - short
Stick - shorter
Handling(shocks/ steering / body roll) all stiffer and more sporty
In short the s is what every after market civic parts maker try's for
But in all a civic will never be an s2000
On The other hand parts are $$$$$ and to get more hp you will pay

Never had a EK or EG but I had an 07 civic sedan EX, sold it 4 months later for my 06 S2000. Greatest choice i ever made, the civic had good amount of room, and the MPG was decent but the power was never there. I wanted a bit more fun and wanted to get a sporty car. Was about to purchase a MR2 Spyder but spotted the S and bought the car the next day. To me S>civic, but like i said i had the standered 07 model never owned the older Gen's... lol
I have had a number of Civics, including the original "sport" that had a 5 speed and "tweed" inserts on the seat covers. And then I had the original "Insight" in 2000. Great car, really should have never sold it. All aluminum body, 6 speed, great gas mileage (I averaged 68 MPG over 5 years).
The thing I liked was that it would run over 100 and would do 50 in second gear. Great car.
Then moved to BMW Z4 and now S2000.
Honda quality, can not be beat.

Thats very true, Honda quality is there for sure. - Insurance seems steep for S2000 however £3300 vs £1200 for a civic, so that maybe a deciding factor for a while, it seems that prices here in the uk have just sky rocketed, i could insure an S2k for £2100 last year... i have more experience and NCB so somethings going off..?
I can generally get about 50mph in 2nd, i hit VTEC in 2nd at 42mph which is fun

I've had my 97 Civic HX for 10 years and I've had my s2k for 1.5 years. I like my Civic for a daily, even though it has absolutely NO balls whatsoever. It's paid off, gets great gas mileage, and usually needs very little maintenance, so I keep it.
It is in NO WAY comparable to the s2000.
The s2k is so much tighter and quicker in handling and is so much more responsive. After driving the s2k, the Civic feels like a whale (kinda looks like one in the pic too, lol)
