Civic to S2K
"RWD issue" almost disappears with VSA (*). Get a MY06+ and you won't have to worry a bit. And taking corners will be a lot more fun than a FWD.
Tire cost is real. If you want a nice set, it'll cost almost a grand each year.
(*) With VSA on, the car won't spin unless it's impossible to avoid.

My '94 Civic was a DX model and my first car. It was a great beater! Had lots of fun and learned how to drive in it but I wouldn't consider it fast in any way considering it was completely stock.
Now the Integra Type R, that was a great car to drive and I was able to squeeze some good performance out of it. It was heads and shoulders above a regular version so if the newer Civic variants are anything like it (I believe the CTR's are) then it would be a great compromise since the fun, the fast, and the comfort are all present.
As for the S2000, it seems a little quicker having more power in stock form. In turns it's not as confidence inspiring as good FWD cars until you learn proper RWD steering and throttle control (hopefully exploring the limits in a safe environment). I don't think the S2000 is as superior in raw performance to the FWD Honda platforms as most make it out to be. Heck, any decent modern sports car you can buy new marginally outperform it. But it is a nice roadster and the driving dynamics are rather unique. I would consider switching to a Civic or Integra only if it was race-prepped for competition.
FYI, my other car is an Accord so I have my pseudo-barge commuter for when I need to haul around things and bio-units. Great car as well but not in the thrill to drive area.

I have a 2000 Civic EX with a GSR motor/b16 trans as a daily. I've had the car for 5 years and while I would love to get a truck or something of the sorts as a DD, I would hate to give up the reliability of my Civic. As far as my Civic and S2K compare- they don't. My Civic is fun to drive and all - but the overall experience and driving of the s2k is just more of a connected feeling- if that makes any sense.
My only complaint with the s2000 is room. But then again, I'm 6'5...

I too came from a Civic. It was black 2001 Ex coupe 5spd. Just sold the car yesterday actually, LOL. It was my first car, and I learned a lot from it. I'm glad a learned stick on the civic first, before getting into the S. And yes the civic is nothing like the S2000. The civic is gutless as hell. The S is a rocket ship in comparison.
By all means if you have the money to buy a S2000 don't hesitate, buy one as as soon as you can. Finding a clean example with low miles is getting very hard to find, well at least finding a Rio was hard. There were way to many silverstones for sale. But that color sis so boring
. Took me all summer to find mine.

Brilliant thanks for the feedback's sofar, love everyones point of view and no offense to the comments regarding Civic being none performance vs S2k if its fact, its fact and thats what i like.
I do love my Civic as mentioned it has some poke, VTEC is fun and i haven't had to do hardly anything to it to keep it running, a few mods later and it breaths better and grips better with coil-overs and some decent tires and as its my daily fuel isnt too bad (since prices have gone up daft here in uk, now £1.25 a liter and Tax on my car is £200+ for a 1.6 which is silly...
Again keep em coming!
