Noticed from the carfax that the car had been repossessed. My guess would be the deadbeat who owned it stripped it before they lost it to sell the parts or just to stick it to the lender. I have an 08. All 08/09 seats have red stitching, solid headrests which are slightly taller than the roll hoops, and the seatbelt guide is attached to the seats. In addition to the seats, antenna and probably the wheels being incorrect, it would not be typical to need a new battery at 12k miles. There is definitely a reason for the low price. Buyer beware.

$22500 for an 08 with 12.5k miles is an absolutely amazing deal, but like you said, there is a reason. I'd be weary too, but if I was shopping for one, I'd also have a hard time totally walking away from it at that price like the OP is. Still best to walk away though, without knowing what really happened.

Will the 8 month remaining warranty cover things that have been altered or modified or failures that result from things that have been modified? I'm not saying this would be a bad buy only that you already know going in that things aren't right on this car just from what we can see from photos and the carfax report. On top of that, it doesn't sound like the dealer is giving you/your friend the facts.

for the dealer to say they will put in the right seats means an awful large expense for them, over $5,000 and likely more than that for new ones. It would be suspiscious to lose that much money on a deal. Definitely the wrong seats and my guess is that it was involved in a theft, likely one you wouldn't see on a report. New seats, radio, and antenna , maybe wheels too ?, dead give-away. Maybe a new roof too.
Basically we found all the inconsistencies so I guess the question is would any of you buy it?
Alright the the word so far is the dealership has seats they are going to put in. They are "used but like new from another 2008." They are going to also fix the antenna. The engine VIN matches but the gauge cluster hasn't been checked. The dealership says 22,500 out the door. Sure my friend will still have to pay Illinois taxes and licensing but not too big a deal. Going out to look at it in a week. Another dealership said as long as it's the right parts they will cover it in the warranty. I am still a little hesitant but for the price why not check it out. I'll keep you posted and let you know what happens next week. Until then if there are anymore thoughts or things we should check out on it please let me know.
I'm nearby and O'daniel has an ok/good reputation around here. But too many things "wrong" with the car. Just the fact that they'd replace the seats shows that they're building in too much profit for the car. Take the seats as-is and offer them $17k.
That said, I'd pass. Chicane Silver? Not a great color, IMO.

That does bring up one more question. If the car was Honda certified after it was repossessed does that mean it had to have all the original equipment (seats, radio, antenna) to sell it with the CPO status. If so then whatever happened to it happened after it was repossessed and O'daniels knows more than they are leading on.

The car is being sold as CPO? If so, they are "supposed" to come with everything the original car came with, including floor mats, tools, etc... Although dealers tend to inspect somewhat loosely. You would want to see all the parts before you consider buying, to make sure they have them, or have it all listed in writing. Also, you should check the convertible top TSB to see if this car is in the range of VIN for top replacement.
