Default Cluster Lighting OCD/Fix

Hey all,

If you have or have not read on a previously old forum... there seems to be some sort of cluster bleed on SOME of the s2000's clusters. To some, this is a huge nuisance and will seriously cause the perfectionist to go crazy. Keep in mind, I just got my new s2k... and I want everything perfect about it (I hope everyone can understand that). One of the buying perks was how cool the cluster was, especially at night. Unfortunately the car that I got has a gap between the plastic casing and the window on the cluster = massive light bleed.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=587392

I attached an old thread, go to page 2 and you can find pictures of what I mean. Has ANYONE attempted to fix this? Any ideas on a quick fix rather than doing surgery? I was thinking of placing electrical tape up in there so that the light does not get through. It has the possibility of looking pretty tacky though. Not sure.

Also, another quick question that never really got answered on the old thread; is the left side (audio control) dimmer than the right side (temp control)?

Thanks guys and gals

Yeah I just noticed that this past week. But mine isn't so bad and it doesn't bother me that much since I don't stare at my instrument cluster. Maybe you can play with the brightness so the light coming out of the gap isn't as conspicuous. Also, instead of electrical tape maybe you can tape the loop-side (as opposed to hook) of black adhesive velcro in the gap.

anyone have pictures of what the bleeding looks like, I've noticed it in mine, but it doesn't bother me. It's only noticeable with the dash light set to the highest level and only at night.

I set my dash light to near lowest. It makes it great @ night on dark roads = no bleed.

Well I like to keep my cluster at its brightest setting to get the full effect of the 'charm' of the digital cluster. Can't have it at it's brightest setting when there's such massive bleed though haha. Is there any sort of black caulking to put up there?

I thought it was built that way on purpose.

Haha if that were the case, there wouldn't be anyone on here saying that "they don't see the light bleed."

Why would it be built that way anyways? Just curious haha.

Because usually people interested in these types of cars are not thinking about the guage cluster brightness and the over-brightness of a guage.

This is what i see your thread is about. Bleed at its brightest setting...

So, people tell you a very reasonable, common sensical solution... DIM The brightness. You'll be glad you did.
