Default Comptech Filter Question

I just received a used Comptech Air Filter (Replacement for OEM Filter/Box), but I'm thinking that I received the wrong piece and I'm not wondering if I can still use it or should use it, so hopefully someone will chime in and help me out.

The filter fits fairly snug onto the OEM intake elbow (connecting to the Throttle Body), however there is no rivet on the Comptech unit to fit onto the OEM elbow. In addition, and this is my biggest concern, rather than having a connector (similar to the OEM filter) that secures the filter to the box, there is none at all, just a flat top surface (facing the passenger side wheel-well).

Lastly, there is about two inches of space between chamber wall and the intake and I was expecting this space would be filled up by the filter, which it isn't...normal?

My Intake (Yes, my engine is duuuuurty! ):

dont worry, its the same filter. Comptech changed the whoel design so it would fit the packing box better. HP gains are the same, I have the same in my comptech CAI. I sold another member my blue one and used my new green one.

Wow, that was quick! So the newer design is the green filter...the one I have now (pictured)?

So you have no elbow on the top of the filter and no rivet as well?

How long have you had your green filter?

Thanks by the way!

Considering that you don't have a rivet or the elbow piece, has your filter either fallen off or shifted violently? I just wonder why they got rid of those pieces (I know the Spoon filter DOES have them).

I've ahd my comptech filter for about 1500 miles and so far it hasn't moved out of place. It fits snug on the intake hose so and since it's not terribly heavy you shouldn't have a problems with it falling off, moving etc.

Just give it a good cleaning and you'll be set.

Does just adding this drop in filter make any noticeable gains? I can't imagine it improving throttle response much at all, or adding more than maybe a half a whp. I could be wrong though.

No noticeable gains for me but I've got the AUT cooling plate coming. Combined with the filter throttle response should be a bit better. I got it mostly for ease of use (no more filters to buy)

I believe you have recieved the "updated" filter for the Comptech CAI ("icebox", I think they call it). The drop in replacement should still look like the thing in your picture, with the locating pin. You did not get the replacement for the OEM filter, however, if it stays put, then it'll work. You just have about 30 sq. inches LESS of filtering area. Not a big deal if you keep up with cleaning.
