is theft really that much of a problem back east ?

I park my S in a public parking structure a block from my work and never worry about it, I leave it all day with the top down and half the time don't bother locking it since they can just reach in and unlock it.

I leave my car anywhere and everywhere I go with the top down and never worry about it and never have a issue.

Last time I had a issue with the top down was when someone poured a Chocolate shake down the heater vents on the dashboard but that was back in the late 70's or early 80s (been driving convertibles forever).

I left my S in long term parking at LAX for 4 days with the top down and never gave it a second thought.

Why is theft such a issue on the East coast ?
Wow, I wish I could have the same peace of mind that you have. Theft is always a problem, especially in a large city. Nowadays, it's harder to steal a car, and owners are more sophisticated in terms of getting locks/alarms and all that. But the threat is always there, especially in a car like the S2000. However, I think it would be poor choice to let theft dictate my car choice - otherwise, I'd force myself to get a beater, which I wouldn't enjoy. In nice neighborhoods with activity/cameras/doormen, the likelihood is reduced greatly. Like I said, I can hope for the best.

The car was just sold. I'll have to keep scouring the lists, something will pop up.

Sorry to hear that the S was sold. If this is the car you really want, I hope you'll keep looking until you find one I used to have an Integra GSR, sometimes referred to as a "donor car." Mine was never touched. I had a security system, but who pays attention to that anymore

i hope you have an underground garage in your building cause i would hate to see what your bumpers are like in a month parallel parking in nyc.

owning a nice car in nyc is worthless unless you live in a house with a driveway or garage, or a co-op with underground parking because if you park it outside other cars love to play tap the bumper while parking. then you get all the plate screw marks in your rear bumper or an suvs tow hitch mark in your front bumper.

you need to move to socal where every parking spot fits a ford excursion and if there's parallel parking they mark the spot for a full size suv.

I've parked lots of cars before in NYC before...while it is certainly not ideal, it's not the end of the world. I am prepared for dents and dings, and for my bumpers to perhaps need resprays. But the car will still drive excellently, and I'll keep it in mechanically tip-top shape.
