Default A cricket in my engine?

All these threads about noises have me hankerin' to ask what THIS one might be.

I've got an S with 31,000 miles and I'm well aware of the various little groans and noises we've all talked about--the whine of that little cat fan that goes on for a minute or so when the engine's cold, the cool groan of the drivetrain when decelerating at low speeds in low gear, yidal8's electro-mechanical whine/buzz when accelerating at low speed. Now I've got another one that's cropped up over the past few thousand miles.

I've got what sounds like a cicada in my engine. It's intermittant and happens only for about a second after takeoff and then again, for a second or so, as I shift and accelerate into 2nd. It'll go away as I accelerate and then come back, just for a second, after I shift into 3rd and begin to accelerate. Happens under mild, grandmotherly acceleration. Sounds just like a short cricket chirp. I had the steed in for servicing recently and the mechanic looked puzzled and couldn't duplicate the noise.

Anyone have this or know what it is?

Steed: (n) a spirited horse (typically stallion) used in times of war

Now what's that noise?

I get this sound also, only when driving the car hard...sounds like a slipping belt and only happens when I shift 2nd to 3rd.

Slight spark knock (pinging)?
Does it happen when the engine is cold or fully warmed up?
