I think this thread was made for me...

Never had a sports car before (my 1989 CRX - a rusty Michigan beater in recent years - just went to donated car heaven).

According to my dealer, my S2000 was "born" yesterday...should be here by June. My master plan is to use the S as an excuse for my wife and me to get away and enjoy life on the weekends (hopefully a daily driver 6 months a year, too).

I've read so much here on the forum about how the S2000 brings on "spontaneous smiles" - reminds me of my test drive...fit like a glove.

I'm thinking that a sports car may actually be more liberating (and cheaper) than therapy in the long run?

I forgot how much fun a rag-top two-holer was until I test drove the S2K a few weeks ago. Had one (roadster, not S2K) a few years back (well, more than a few), in the year 3 BK (Before Kids). LOTS of FUN! Since then, I've had 2 Z cars in the 80s, and a Camero, with removable glass panels. NOT the same as a roadster! My mid-life motorcycle (4 years old) still makes me smile, but the wife just can't handle that back seat for very long. It was her idea to trade in the sedan and get a roadster (the kids have been gone way too long.) There's not much room for groceries, and only one passenger, but you're going to love having this car. I know I will ... maybe it will be here by next weekend?

I am 26, and it is my mid-life crisis car

As an everyday driver, it is good, lots of stares and baffled looks People in BMWs and Mercedes were totalling staring with dumb founded lots this weekend. As for hauling groceries, picking the kids up and bumming around town, you can do that too. I've only hauled my laptop and a binder in the truck and picked up my sister from HS once. The young crowd really knows the car but the older people don't so I would just be careful where you park. If you have a second car, I would use it for going for the groceries and leaving it in crowded lots or places frequented by minors like movie theatres.

If your bumming around Richmond though, no worries, tonnes of S2ks and other nice imports everwhere.

26 and a mid-life crisis... you have no idea how much you're hurting me.

I'm expecting to get my car on Wednesday and I'm feeling like.. well I'm feeling like a 26 year old!

Interesting mix on these forums.. which is why they're such a neat place to hang around.

My wife tells me she'd rather I have the S2000 than a mistress for a mid-lie crisis! Of course I'm not ready for a mid-life crisis yet. Hey, maybe I'll never have one since I've already got the car!

My S2000 goes with me every day on my commute; fortunately not a long one - about 15 miles round trip. It has certainly made that drive more interesting!

While my car has been described by others as my "mid-life crisis car" (I recently broke 50 years of age) - I still insist that it's simply the realization of a life long dream. Mid-life cure or not, it's a great ride!

All great comments- my one question on this is whether the "mid-life" purchasers of convertible vettes feel the same way, or if somehow the S2k owners are enjoying things even more ???

'never owned a vette, but test drove one once in '87. Having owned a small roadster and a Z car, the Chevy felt like riding a whale (with intestinal gas). Fast, but heavy. I opted for a new camaro vs. a used 'vette. Wrong move, yes, and traded it for a 300ZX the following year. No "crises" here. Just trying to move up in the standings...the one with the most toys when he dies, WINS.
