Oh well.. the dream lies shattered.

I found a S2000 (MY2000) at my local Honda dealer here in North Vancouver. It had been on the lot less than 24 hours, I saw it and agreed to buy it on the spot. At the time they did tell me that the 5th gear didn't work and that this would be a repair covered by warranty and would be completed in 4 to 5 days... so far so good.

Well 5 days came and went.. they didn't have the parts and would have to order them from Japan. Then they managed to find the parts from the US and everything looked good. They started work on the car and after 3 days the technician gave up. Apparently the one technican who had once disassembled and reassembled a S2K transmission was on vacation!! So everyday this week I was promised the car would be ready and lo and behold it never was. This of course got me worried.. is the problem bigger than they were telling me.. would repairs always be such a torture.. was this the transmission problem that others had spoken about on these forums?

The straw that broke the camel's back came this morning when the service manager called to say that not only did they not manage to fix the car last night but that they did not know what the problem really was and that it could be another 2 weeks before I could have the car.

So I have decided that this S2K is not the one for me.. and I must admit that this experience has got me scared about the car in general.

So if you're in these parts and see a greying middle-aged dude with a grumpy face in a 95 Nissan Parthfinder that'll be me and my mid-life crisis.

Good luck everyone.. the dream was short but sweet!!

I'm a bit past the so-called 'mid life', but the S2000 has been a great experience. Being of the age 63 years, 8 months and 1 day, and very recently become unemployed, I have an appointment to visit the local Social Security office next Monday morning. I intend to head there top-down, engage the VTEC once or twice, and begin to pick up my entitlement before the System goes broke.

Alright AmarD, hold still while I give you a couple of smacks and knock some sense into you! Get your cheque book and drive to a dealership that has a new (un-abused) S2000 and buy it. This will save you all the hassles of getting the used one fixed AND give you all the benefits of the new
MY 2002. The cars hold their value well, so there won't really be a huge difference in price. Lets assume you keep the car for five years and you manage to get a good price on the new one... You would probably save $4000 by buying the used car. $4000 divided by the 1825 days you would own it works out to only be about $2.00 per day!!! That is about the price of an extra-large Tim Hortons coffee. This is a small price to pay for the cure to your mid-life crisis.

Seriously, this is a great car, and you shouldn't be spooked by it. Most members on this board have had no difficulties with the cars! It is an amazing machine and well worth the price of the new model. I am not a car sales person, I just really think that if a person can afford one they should buy it.

You should be able to get your car for around $47,000 new (plus tax of course)...

Next Vancouver meet is on the 11th!

Good luck!
