Yes

No.

Really, you could almost just call it a "top down" mod. With the top up there's not much of a difference from stock with all the motor noise in the cabin. Just a bit fuller sound overall. With the top down though it's a nice little improvement over stock (where you never even hear the exhaust over the sound of the engine, top down or otherwise). That's why it kind of surprises me that Honda even felt the need to put the resonator on in the first place. It's not like the sound would offend anyone without it. It just balances the sound out a bit and adds a little exhaust tone when the top is down.

Remeber to try this guys. Have someone drive your S2k around you while your standing in the lot. Def a cooler sound and more distinctive toan growl The oil change guy drove it away and I'm like that sounds awesome and even the oil change guy agreed.

After reading this thread, I stopped at a local muffler shop on the way home yesterday and took mine out. I love the sound! Thanks, guys.

I don't know if this is just my sense, but I feel the car drives better--lighter throttle and more power. Can this mean possibly that there was a blockage in the resonator, do you think?

I read through the whole post and the resonator is supposed to jsut muffle the sound correct? I just want to make sure it doesn't effect anything for the nazi california emission standards.

I would think that it would make absolutely NO difference in polution emissions. You could change the entire exhaust system from the catalytic converter back and not change the polutions you're emitting.

Everyone is saying that the difference in noise emissions is minimal so I can't see that they'd have an issue with that. Of course, you could run into the only hard arse in the state that would give you grief over it but it shouldn't effect your emissions test.

Isn't the resonator removed when you install an aftermarket catback exhaust?

OK, here's a picture
I had the stock resonator removed last Friday, and after a weekend of driving would never want to go back!
I had my favorite shop weld in a straight piece of 2.25" with a hanger, as I was concerned that clamping this piece might eventually allow some shifting of the downstream hardware.
I had the car up in the air to change the transmission / rear end / clutch fluids (all original @ 19K miles) so snapped this photo with the old resonator laying on the ground for reference.

Cost= $60 and 45 minutes

Cheers,
Brian
Hey, can someone tell me what the blocked off tube coming out the side of the exhaust pipe in this pic does?
