I think the general distaste for it is how it is similar to a kid with a crappy riced out 4 door civic with a 747 wing on the trunk and a raspy coffee can exhaust dangling 2 inches off the pavement. I have seen/heard enough of these to A: dislike the sound and B:not want to be associated with those examples of poor taste/execution.
But thats just me.

Fart cannons don't sound like that to me. They sound more like a raspy fart (thus the name). I can understand what your saying but its not really similar enough to me. I wouldn't have put on the test pipe if it was going to make my car sound like a ricer. I think all the single piped exhaust people are getting for their S's sound more ricer than a test pipe.

I had the resonator removed and I love it. Barley louder and only $50. Does the testpipe go in place of the cat?

Yep. Its basically a straight pipe with a bung for the O2 sensor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiQWitHJj-U Thats what it sounds like with no resonator and a test pipe. Pretty awesome sounding but a little too raspy for daily driving.

Is there a possible power loss if a 2.5" pipe is used instead of a 2.25"? I would guess about 1-2hp of a loss down low but make up that power with a very minimal gain on the top end in vtec?

I don't know...

I saw a different thread on this and went down to the muffler shop to get it done today. Love the sound. Had the 2.5" installed and the welds look great. Now I find this thread and I see everywhere that I was supposed to get a 2.25" pipe installed instead of the 2.5" pipe. On top of that I don't even know if the guy put in a stainless steel pipe(he painted it after he finished welding). I hope 2.5" doesn't mess with any hp/tq loss on this car.

Power wise, it will be negligible, do you even feel any difference? It is lighter w/o the resonator though. What's your opinion on the sound?

^^ I don't feel that I've lost any or gained any power but that's from just the butt dyno and everybody has theirs' tuned differently.

I do like the sound more...after the exhaust warms up after driving for about 5-10 min. it has a really nice tone/howl. Before that it can be a little raspy at times if you gas it a little too quickly. It's nowhere near as loud as an aftermarket exhaust.

It sounds best with the top down...But don't they always?!!

No idea what it would sound like w/ the high flow cat, I wonder what it would sound like with just that piece though! How much is it?
