Daily drivers, when do you shift?
When I had my MR2 I used to shift at 2,500 all the time and that was where I got my best mileage.
Now with the S, when I first got it I shifted at 3k but the power wasn't there in the next gear. I now shift at between 4k-5k. The funny thing is, I get even better mileage now than when I shifted at 3k. It all depends on the car I suppose, and the S runs better and more efficiently at higher RPM's compared to most cars out there.

Once everything is warmed up I am apt to shift at any speed, depending on the conditions, but most shifts fall between 4,000 and 6,000 RPM (as higher revs are rarely needed, even to blast away from the normal flow of trafic). My car also has lower gearing and a supercharger, and I generally get 23-25 MPG.
Before the SC and gears I was getting 25-27 MPG.
Doesn't sound like you're saving much fuel by shifting earlier.

Back OT: I didn't read the whole post before I posted but I just reiterated what Chuck said. I found that I got better gas mileage when shifting at 4k-5k vs. 3k.
