No physical damage - just the damage you do to performance by sucking all the hot air from under the hood.

I have heard of a few guys cutting out the inner wall inside the box. I have also been considering cutting a few "vents" in the front of the box. I was hoping doing this would reduce the hot air that comes in over removing the top or entire airbox. Can anyone give me some feedback on how positive or negative (or negligible) the effects would be.

Do not cut the airbox.
The airbox is tuned and any alteration will permanently effect your performance. (Unless you replace the airbox.)
This has been debated on this board quite a bit.

I concur. Don't cut holes in the airbox lid. This will reduce power.

As for cutting out the wall, I have done this and my seat of pants dynomometer can't tell the difference. I also can't recall any imperical evidence on this mod alone.

By cutting out the wall and leaving the top on have you heard any difference? I wasnt expecting much of an HP gain but I would like a louder sound from the intake.

Yes, it's louder, but not to the extent of the open top set up. But it may be partially a result of my filter??
