Damn HAIL! Hood and hardtop damaged!!! Replace or Repair?
Well, we had a lovely storm in Tulsa last night and my car happened to be sitting outside and I was not there to protect it. I checked my car in the morning and sure enough, I have hail damage on my hood and hardtop! It is hard to tell how bad it is because my car is dirty and because it wasn't too bright outside. I'm not sure if it is repairable because of the aluminum hood and hardtop. I especially am not sure about the hardtop. Do you think the insurance company will fix OR replace them? If so, I would love to get a carbon fiber hood. Does anyone know how much HONDA charges for the OEM hood? What do you think will end up happening with the insurance company?
Thanks,
-Brandon

DOh, sorry to hear that. Im not sure if insurance will cover something like that. I replaced my hood on a 98 Prelude at it only cost $300 less paint. Im sure the S2000 will be around the same price.

I don't think insurance would cover it (although I don't know your personal coverage), so if you like carbon fiber, you mine as well go for it. The OEM one is quite expensve, like $300-$400 or something like that. I can look up the exact price if you want (I had to have my entire front end and hood replaced awhile back after my accident).

Hail damage should be covered under waranty. I would first go to a body shop and get an estimate. I would imagine it would be expensive since both pieces are aluminum. Make sure you take it to an EXPERIENCED body shop for aluminum work---there is a special way of repairing damaged aluminium. Contact your local Acura dealer and ask where they send their NSX body work to. Or call specialty shops.

Brandon,
Sorry to hear about the hail damage. I've had hail damage on my S twice. Yes, insurance covers hail damage. As a matter of fact insurance companies are required to quote you a "conventional" repair. That means strip, repair, prep, paint = $$$.
However, if you want to save your factory paint take it to a reputable Paintless Dent Repair shop, PDR. Each time they returned my S to perfection and I actually got about half of the insurance money back

Lucky its your hood and hardtop. You can take off the hardtop and let the PDR guys work on it. The hood shouldn't be a problem unless damage is done on the rim of it.

Thanks for your help everyone. I do have comprehensive coverage and I do know that hail damage is covered.
What steps do I need to take if I want to replace the hood with a carbon fiber one instead of an OEM one?
Thanks,
-Brandon

I imagine you would just file a claim like you would do with any kind of accident. The bodyshop will give you a quote on repairs, including the one for the hood. See how much that is in comparison to a carbon fiber hood. If there isn't much price difference, you can have a carbon fiber hood delivered to your bodyshop and they can install it (of course you have to let them know not to order the honda aluminum hood before). If there is a price difference, I would assume that you just have to pay the bodyshop the difference. It's pretty simple .. you just acquire the part you want and give it to the bodyshop. The bodyshop then gives the total repair cost to your insurance agent who pays the bodyshop directly. A carbon fiber hood is merely taking the place of a honda hood.
