Dated Interior
only if the stock headunit had the mp3 compatibility. =)
i guess they can call it *dated* when we're missing couple of pairs of airbags, mp3, and a navi compare to the newer models.
it's all GO

I think the interior layout is great. At first glance, I think "classy," but the technology certainly shows it's age when you look up close. Head unit is decent, but lacking compared to modern units. Wish it sounded better and had an audio input jack. Just look at a Mazda 3 radio and look at ours. Lack of navigation option on USDM models and the whole each door only unlocks itself (not a tech issue since you can rewire it yourself, but an appearance issue to reviewers who have to manually open the passenger side).
I think the interior is spartan and classic, but I can definitely understand the dated statements since power everything is pretty much standard fair now a days..

the fact that the interior is simple, and that the console is single DIN with a cover, means you can upgrade to whatever cd player you want, with whatever features (xm , sirius, hdradio , input jack, etc), and it wont look out of place

todays integrated dash leaves an aesthetic problem in regards to upgrade. while the sound and functionality is better than "standard", its not "good". to upgrade from "good", you ruin the looks of the interior. put in an aftermarket unit and it'll stick out like a black guy at a dave matthews band concert

It's like how many people would say "Yes!" if Honda upgrades the stock head unit to a rebranded JVC NX5000 that can play dvd, mp3 discs, and divx while also offering in car bluetooth, nav system, and audio and video inputs? Or if it was a factory option.
I'd much rather have this as the stock head unit. Taken from Tanguen's posts.

This is the difference between dated and modern to me. Well, not necessarily this extreme of a difference between head units, but yeah.
What interior? I could believe that the interior is missing... but that's what I like about it.
No distractions, no gadgets, no blinking lights, no glove box, no OBC, no temperature display, no auto climate control, no seat heater buttons.

I agree with you on the aesthetics of integrated vs covered head unit, but the problem is that a lot of owners don't swap out. The fact that you need to upgrade is what makes it dated. I'm not saying make it integrated necessarily, but a better head unit would be nice.

Their absence in the current car makes it a true drivers car IMO...
