Not true either Matt, go to a NASCAR race.

If you want to see dated look no further than the 350Z. Atleast the RX8s interior still looks fresh. The Nissan's looked old when it was new.
No thanks. But if you do look around, the number of non-whites is extremely small in comparison to the typical Nascar crowd.

And Nissan's design theme for the 350Z was supposed to be retro in the fact that it was based on cues from the original Z cars.... I guess it was supposed to look dated?

I agree with you on the aesthetics of integrated vs covered head unit, but the problem is that a lot of owners don't swap out. The fact that you need to upgrade is what makes it dated. I'm not saying make it integrated necessarily, but a better head unit would be nice.

It's like how many people would say "Yes!" if Honda upgrades the stock head unit to a rebranded JVC NX5000 that can play dvd, mp3 discs, and divx while also offering in car bluetooth, nav system, and audio and video inputs? Or if it was a factory option.

I'd much rather have this as the stock head unit. Taken from Tanguen's posts.

This is the difference between dated and modern to me. Well, not necessarily this extreme of a difference between head units, but yeah.
which JVC is that.

I love the S2k's interior. Very minimalist. I hate with some interiors, the dashes are made so huge they fill them up with all this visual

The above post is spot-on about the single din radio behind a door. On these big integrated dashboards, an aftermarket stereo will look horrible.

What about the new Civic? One of the interior styles doesn't seem to have an actual standardized stereo, the buttons come out of the dash itself - have fun modding that.

I look at my family's TSX. The dash and interior was such a "wow-factor" when we first got it. But that excitement soon died off and became cheesy not too much later.
except that applies to our TSX, MDX, CL, old MDX, and Civic Si

I don't think that it's dated. But the Navi screen from Japan would be nice for the car. I'd also like to have normal guages instead of digital.

I feel like our gauges are going to look like TRON in 10 years.
The S2000 has a very nice interior and the only thing I dont like is the digital gauge cluster - SOOO 80s.

Z31 300ZX

C4 Corvette

I really can't think of any modern car on the market that has digtal tach/huge numbers. It looks chintzy and tacky. Also, I think the JDM Navigation (as do all Navi systems after a few years) looks EXTREMELY dated and corny. Look at a Honda Legend navi from the early 90s and try not to laugh. Compare the 2001 BMW M3/early M5/7 series navigation to the later widescreen models and the later Idrive system.

Thats the problem with throwing so much techy crap in a car - technology moves to fast to stay cool long. Keep it clean, keep it simple - the S2000 really shines there.

I personally love basically everything on the S2000's interior.

Only thing i would change is the little compartment in front of the passenger seat. You can put 2 (barely) CD cases there.

I don't like the squarish (industrial?) interiors in some cars. The new acura cars looked worse to me than the S2000's simple design. The S2000's interior looks great to me. Even the gauge cluster is digital but small and non blingy enough to look good. I really hate the intergration of the stereo into the dash that some cars have gone to.

Haha. I forgot there was a compartment under there. For a while there, I thought you were talking about the passenger net.

Digital instrument clusters are a very touchy subject. Yes, that 300ZX above is absolutely horrendous, I would happily rip that out and replace it with some Defi's or whatnot. I believe Honda got it right with the S2000. It's small so it doesn't look like NASA's control room, and quite simple; no stupid gimmicks. That powerband-ish curve on that 300ZX dash.....please.
