I actually look forward to the meaningless (milk, eggs, bread) runs that my wife makes me go on. Never happened in any other car that I've owned...

I have heard some of the post so far and they are great. Thanks for the lift and now I want to go out and drive. Some may have been a little confused on why I created this post. Yes I own an 02 S and I love it, but latley with everyones posting garbage, it has made me a little numb to why I love this car. I should of stated so when I created this post but since I did not I will now.

I got my first Honda in 98. It was a 97 CBR 600 F3 Smokin Joes, and at the time I was 16. No my parents did not buy it for me, I purchased it from a friend to spite my parents, for not letting me buy my Dream car (Camaro SS).

So by this amazing expirence with the great Honda motor Co. at its finest I decided to make my 2nd Honda purchase. I bought a 98 Prelude SH (short for the SHIT!)in 2000.
I was 18 and could not have afforded my NEW dream car the 2000 Honda S2000. Though on a daily basis I would go onto the internet and mess around on the Honda web site and pick through all of the S's color schemes and dream.

From before this amazing car came out, to 2002 all I did was reasearch it and find out why it is the car that it is. From its 50/50 weight dist., to its double wishbone sus., and its unmatched power plant. There are no cars out there that would even come close to holding my respect the way that this SPECIAL 2000 car does. Sorry about taking so much space but I think that it is justifyed.

Sometimes I get the same feeling; I know what you mean!

However... This week, purely accidental, I was able to take the Stook out for a 300+ miles (500+ km) each way from Holland to Germany, because my office didn't supply me with a proper car for the trip (which is customary; don't ask).

So, this was the first time I could drive it at significantly higher speeds (legally on the German autobahns) for a relatively long period. Because there was other traffic on the road (bastards!) I could only drive 150 mph (240 kph) safely for a while. After that it became more busy, so the speed went down a tad (107 mph or rather 173 kph just below VTEC at 5500 rpm). Needless to say my trip was bliss. The last half of my morning trip (about 2 of the 5 hours in total) I drove with the top down in 50degF (10degC) with my jacket and cap on and the heater on crispy.

On my way back home last Friday afternoon I pretty much drove the whole trip open (even driving the 173 kph for a stretch (with my baseball cap on!!), but more cruising regularly at 75 mph (120 kph) in even a little bit colder, but nevertheless sunny weather.

What is the point of my story?? Well, the point is that the reason why I love my Stook cannot be explained by words or figures, but by the extreme intense big ass grin on my face the whole trip back. Right than and there, I realized I own my perfect car!!!

Happy cruising!

I test drove a lot of cars-Boxster/Boxster S, Audi TT, BMW Z3 and M3, Mercedes SLK, SL190,SL280 and a few others. Drove the S on a whim and bought it after the test drive.

I didn't buy any of my cars because they were rare I bought them because I loved driving them (except the Mjstang it was my wife's car). My Porsche is far more rare then my S there were only 2500 made over 4 years and 357 made in my model year. Owning a rare car is actually an epensive PITA when something breaks a few years down the road.

From my thread THE "S" STANDS FOR SPECIAL;

Yes I know it stands for Sport but it really could stand for special also. I also know most of you old timers know what makes it special but for some of the newer members and for those who may be sitting on the fence about purchasing one I thought I might recap some of what makes the S2000 such a very special automobile.

HERITAGE:

Honda has been in business over 50 years (as has Porsche and Ferrari) and most of those years were spent competing at the very highest levels in motorsports, first with motorcycles, then with automobiles. Also like Ferrari and Porsche racing is in their DNA. Mr Honda himself was a racer and a fanatic about building engines. He named the company "The Honda MOTOR Company" after all. Almost to the day he died he would don a white lab coat and be found in the HONDA R&D building tinkering with the new engine technologies and mixing with his young engineers. He made it a policy to send his young promising engineers to the different racing programs HONDA was involved in. He believed in proving the superiority of his products on the world stage of international competition. He believed that racing improved his products and more importantly, his young engineers. To this day The CEOs of Honda are all promoted from the ranks of engineers, not bean counters. HONDA has amassed an unbelievable amount of race wins and championships in all types of racing. There is even a saying about HONDA; "HONDA enters,...HONDA Wins". Many people believe (and I am one of them) that HONDA builds the best engines in the world. HONDA is the largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines in the world.

THE S2000 Overall

Designed as the car to commemorate HONDA's 50th anniversary.
Derived from the SSM (Sports Study Model) Prototype show car.
Designed by the same engineers who designed the Championship winning (6 times in 9 years) F1 engines for such greats as Prost, Piquet, and Senna.
Designed by the same engineers who designed the Accura NSX
Hand assembled in the same factory (HONDA's Premier Tochigi Plant) as the NSX.
Limited Production.
Only Front Engined Rear Wheel drive Honda Roadster available since the S800.
Has been on Car & Drivers 10 best list for both model years.
Named to Road & Track's Best both model years
The Engine has been named by Wards as one of the 10 best both years of production.
Has a perfect reliability score in Consumer Reports as well as rated as a best buy and named most fun to drive.
Is consistently compared to cars that cost upwards of $20,000 more and beats them.

The Car

SUPER rigid high center backbone X Frame design. Derived from a Colin Chapman design (Lotus). Is as rigid as many coupes. This allows a stiffer more highly tuned suspension without the worry of chassis flex.
Four wheel double wishbone suspension which is derived from the NSX design.
Showa gas Shocks with the rears having a remote resevoir.
Four wheel disc brakes with ABS.
Special design Brigestone S02 tires.
Electric boosted power steering.
Integrated roll bars both behind the passenger compartment and in the windshield frame.
Excellent crash worthiness.
Recaro Seats.
Alloy pedals perfectly placed for Heel/Toe shifting
50-50 weight distribution. The S2000 is really a mid engine design with the engine mounted in front of the driver but behind the front axle.
Dual airbags.
High Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights.
Big Red Starter Button!
All controls within fingertip reach of the Steering Wheel.
A minimalist design geared towards giving the driver the closest thing to experiencing a Formula type single seat race car for the street.

The Engine and Running Gear

The highest specific HP per liter, naturally aspirated production piston automobile engine in the world. 120HP/liter.
The highest revving production piston engine (car) in the world. 9000RPMs
Quite possibly the best engine size & weight per HP ratio of any naturally aspirated piston production engine.
With all this performance it is still rated as an LEV
VTEC on both intake and exhaust.
Forged pistons
Forged Rods
Forged crank
Hollow Cams (for lightness and oil flow to the valve springs)
Valve springs and main bearing material derived from the championship winning CART Engines.
Roller valve train
carbon fiber/metalic ceramic cylinder liners.
Chain/gear driven cams
Split cam gears for zero backlash and low noise
Hand welded and formed stainless headers
Nutless rod design
Girdled main bearing carrier with cast iron inserts.
Tapered wristpins for light weight
No ballance shafts
Individual Coils for each cylinder
Die cast aluminum block
Die cast finned aluminum oil pan
Die cast finned aluminum Transmission case
Die cast finned aluminum differential housing
Torsen (torque sensing) LSD
Pressure fed oil circulation in transmission
Just about the best shifting 6 speed ever made.
Ferrari-like RED Valve Cover.
HONDA RELIABILITY AND BUILD QUALITY

Performance

0-60 in under 6 seconds
1/4 Mile in under 14 seconds
60-0 in under 115 feet
Slalom at over 70 MPH
Skid Pad over .9 G

Well that is just some of what makes the S stand for Special. I am sure many here will add to this list. For those who don't own one yet let me just say that all of the above adds up to the most engaging automobile I have ever driven. This is a true "Driver's Car" and it is indeed very, very special because of that.

There isn't much left to say after Bieg's excellent post except the car is a thrill to own and a thrill to drive.

The reason why S2000 owners say their cars are better than "that other car" is because it is. if you can name another car that can be bought brand new for less than 35k that goes 0-60 in the low 5 second range, has near telepathic steering, stops quickly i would like to know what it is. And lets not forget the "rifle bolt precision" of the shifter (car and driver said that). it also gets 28 mpg (at least mine does), turns heads, isn't a dime a dozen (like mustangs, camaros and wrx's) has a top notch reliability record and is easy to maintain.
Is it perfect? no. Is it for everybody? no. Would i trade it for one of its competitors? hell no.
