The cylinders are already bored out as much as reliably possible. Block, header, piston and perhaps valve redesign is needed for optimum performance. Also the block would be longer.

And it appears they tried hard to make it as short as possible for better weight distribution.

Also, increasing stroke is the way to go to get more useable power download low for everyday driving. Increasing bore would increase power, but not won't have the same effect.

Honda did to the s what they did to all of their great cars: nsx, prelude, etc......
Have a great platform, and amazing for their time. Never update them with the changing times. People can get a bigger bang for their buck elsewhere and then they stop the car

People that own AP1 think thats the best... People that own the ap2 think theirs is the best...

what i wonder other than the small penis factor; how does 1000 extra rpms really help? I think the ap1s being a little more aggressive of a drive would make it more of a drivers car, not the rpms..

The ignorance factor on this thread is huge. Thanks to all of you for providing yet another entertaining read, most born from an absolute lack of knowledge of this cars history pedigree, design changes and significance to the Honda product line. Designed (AP1)and modified (AP2) by one of the greatest automotive engineers of all time. Please keep these threads coming as I laugh and laugh. While I drive and prefer the AP1 I fully understand the issues of the AP1 and why Honda came out with the AP2. The vast majority of the ignorant my dick is bigger posters here do not. So I laugh and laugh. Glad that Honda mass produced spare parts for my car though...thanks Honda.

P.S. This is a car of passion be it either variant. If you would like to educate yourself on this car, and all it's history, you might want to check out Dan Carneys S2000 book

The s2000 is dead because people are weenies and Honda wants to sell them cars. Every article on the s2000 invariably contained the quote "rev the piss out of it to make power"

People don't want to do that, only enthusiasts care about such number games like 9000 rpms and frankly not enough of them were buying s2000's obviously.

And then Honda tried to vanilla the car up a bit by changing the suspension and engine to be more mellow. And it was still a great car but they tried to market it to people that would other wise buy a more refined gt type car such as the z of m3.

But it wasn't those cars it was just a new lipstick model of the same basic 10 year old car.

I can't even imagine them bringing a new s2000 to market like it was. A CRZ size convertible with a transverse mounted current generation k24 might be doable especially given the two new frs variants from subaru and scion they are about to start competing with.

And with the next generation Miata rumored to dump the 200 pounds of weight it has added. And be equipped with the standard transverse setup with a more powerfull and efficient skyactiv engine that may be the final straw, you never know.

I agree to an extent. 8k kept me from buying an AP2, plus all the other "American" changes that were made to it. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and mine is that
the AP2 is inferior to the AP1 and, well.... Fails. AP1 FTW. The AP2 is just another decent performing roadster, nothing special like it was when it was first released.

Responses like this just make me shake my head. Many people who say this have either never driven an AP2, can't afford one, or both. I've owned both an AP1 and AP2, and while in bone stock form AP1's are more exciting, once modded (especially with nice suspension and forced induction) AP2's are better. The F22 makes more power, AP2 transmission shifts MUCH smoother, and the interior is refined. Not to mention the updated headlights and tails which make the car look more up to date (will admit AP1 rear bumper looks much better). I really enjoyed my AP1, but I'd be lying if I said I would take it over my AP2. To say the AP2 fails in comparison and is nothing special is just flat out ignorant though.

Shake your head some more. I test drove an AP2 with 10k on the clock, and had 24k cash in my pocket to buy it with. I turned it down because it didn't even slightly impress me, and I found it boring compared to my very lightly modded AP1. As I said, it's an OPINION. I don't like and will never own an AP2. That simple. Don't let it bother you so much, even if you do find it to be ignorant....
