Difference before and after breaking in the motor
I have 2400 miles on my 06 and im noticing the car getting soother in shifting and power band. Also I might be on crack but vtec seems to kick harder than say when the car only had 1000 miles on it. Even though I vtec alot more than when the car had 1k on it. Threads I have read says the car definatly gets better w/ some age people arguing the power differences in a car w/ 2k compared to a thourogh brake in w/ 5k on the clock? I don't it's hard to asses the true validity of such statments. But for me the shifting is less notchy and the powerband isn't heisitant as when the car was young(some would say DBW Im saying breakin).
I have read that Integra type-R engines as well as the F20C (not sure about the F22) will continue to slightly increase in power until about 5000 miles. I guess it has something to do with the engine casting process, the internals continue wear into spec up until about 5000 miles. I guess as a result small gains are seen. I have no idea if it's true, just something I read once.
I would follow Honda's instructions for break-in.

1700miles and I'm with Alexi- Shifting has either eased-up or I have become acclimatized. I put an after market exhaust system on the car about 500 miles back and now I can't even remember what the car sounded like for the first 1200
We gradually get use to our cars and unless there is a drastic change in performance, it will probably go unnoticed..

06 GPW, a little over 2000 miles since beginning of Sept
Vtec first night with 80 miles on the odometer, did it a few more times before 600 (can't resist), now at 2xxx miles, definately feels stronger with time
Plus, no mechanical issues, burn in smell is basically gone.
I know there are many people who didn't break in their cars. I actually was worried about break-in, and I forgot who, but I remember reading one reply where a guy Vtec the night he got his car, and autocrossed at 500 miles. And his car is running as strong as anyone else's who had done proper break-in procedures.
Now I vtec a few times on every tank of gas

06 Black got it in Feb with 4 miles on it.
5 months after i had 3000 miles on it when i did my first oil change. I changed with Mobil 1 synthetic. My sales friend were laughing at me since I only had 3k miles over the 5 months. they told me i should be driving more often..4 months after the oil change, now i'm at 7200 miles LOL going to do my 2nd oil change with Castol synthetics
Dealer is paying for the oil change service
The major difference I've noticed so far is the engine goes a lot smoother as well as the shifting. power band seems going faster than before the 1st oil change. Another major diff i've noticed was the exhaust. I duno if it was just me or the exhaust tone does become deeper and louder.
Last thing I have noticed was the pessenger seat has been making more noise as the mileage goes up
