Default Disconnecting the trunk release

Has anyone else disconnected their trunk release switch? I had to do the same thing in my Miata. The only thing keeping someone from breaking into my trunk is the flimsy plastic center console cover that could be easily popped off with the same screwdriver they use to slash the top (which is why I never bother locking my doors--or the center console cover after the switch is disconnected).

What I'd really like to do is rewire the trunk button so that it only works with the ignition on. Has anyone else done this?
