If P.T. Barnum were around, he would be laughing his head off. He probably is rolling around in his grave.

As well as current NSX made in Tochigi.

I've guessed before & still guess until hard info. abounds but I see the S2000 being produced until early-mid 2002 when they start tooling / requiring the space to build the CASH COW known as the new NSX.
By then the F20C1 / 2 should be built cheap enough to use lower down the food chain, don't know where they make the engine though?

I was just thinking the other day... what if after 2002, Honda decides to de-content the car and call it an S1800. It would have a smaller, de-tuned 1.8 litre VTEC engine making about 180 hp, no HID headlights, a different front bumper cover, no leather, a manual top, etc. Get the price down to around $22K and absolutely kill the Miata with it! Our S2000s would become instant collectables.

This might be a smart move for Honda since much of the hard tooling is already paid for. I really think the "S1800" would be an easy choice over a Miata. The only downside is that there would be a zillion little cars buzzing around that look like our rare little jewels.

Just thinking out loud.

What? My dealer told me mine was the only one made? Where did you guys get photos of my car? How did you colorize them? Photoshop? I'm amazed at how many people have gathered here to discuss my car

No matter how long they are made, as long as they don't start selling them for 20K and in productions as numerous as Miatas, they'll be a sought after car for years to come.

Received this email from my friend in Toshigi in response to the perverbial question....When will production end? While things are not definite as to US Export Close this is the current "word on the street" a mile from the factory. Pardon the grammer the response has been translated by an Japanese/English language algorithm:

Hello Bob.
How are you?

As you know, S2K is being manufactured in the Takanezawa factory of Honda.
Now, it is Insight, NSX and S2000 to do production in the Takanezawa factory.
New-model Integra type-R (ACURA RS-X) is released into May in Japan by the information which we can know.
These are probably produced in the Takanezawa factory.
And, a minor change is scheduled with S2K in September in Japan.
That change is a small scale by the information which I know.
It is that a change such as a coating color and the design of aluminum wheel and so on is done concretely.
A minor change is done in September, and it doesn't think that production is broken off in 2002 easily.
They are still supposed to have room even if the production of Integra-R is done if it tries to take the operating rate of the Takanezawa factory into consideration.
It goes on, and it is supposed to have S2K produced by these reasons at least until 2002.
These are the stories of the Japanese market.
I don't have information about the close time of North America export.
At present, it continues about this information, and I am being investigated.
If it obtains strong information, I promise to make contact with you.
You introduce information to me again, too.

As ever,

-FOE

Today's AutoWeek showed a picture of the new 2002 Civic hatchback, which will have a Type R with a 190hp 2L engine --- sound familiar?
