It is done! I have the car back, and the install is as described above. Labor was about $303, and the part was about $200 (prepaid). All in, about $500.

I took a couple picts and I will upload them tomorrow - too tired tonight. Install looks neat and clean, and the light on the dash doesn't look too bad on the black leather. No holes in the dash, two in the bottom of the front portion of the hidden compartment.

The switch itself works by putting the tip of your key in it and pressing the hole cylinder in about 1/4" and rotating it. If airbag is on, dashboard light says "Passenger Airbag". If airbag is off, dashboard light says "Passenger Airbag Off." This is a little weird how I've written it because "Passenger Airbag" is text on the device - the only piece that lights is the word "Off" when the airbag is off.

Honda included another copy of the manual for using the airbag switch and a checklist including things like does the SRS light come on briefly, does the airbag switch indicate the correct key-switch setting, etc. After you run through those tests, you sign off and mail the form back to AHMC. Not sure what they do if you never send it, as I left the dealership with all the paperwork.

The dealer turns in the signed form received from the NHTSA way back in a earlier step. Don't forget to have it with you.

So - would it be worth me going back and collecting all my posts on this and putting them in sequence with timing - so the whole process is essentially a how-to? If there are enough that would like that, I'll do it. Shouldn't take too long.

In any case - plan a few months of paperwork and waiting and you can get this done too! Zeesh!

At least my daughter (2.5 - was 2 when I started this, doh ) can ride safely now!

Dave asked about MY04. I have no idea...I have a MY00. Without getting into MY00-03 vs MY04 (plenty of other threads for that), it feels like the changes wouldn't affect something like the airbag cutoff switch. Of course, we haven't seen any picts to know if the center console and hidden compartment is the same design, etc. The principal is probably the same.

Best,
Jim

Write up an article and PM it to me and I'll see if we can get it added to the library.

Outstanding, J. I really look forward to seeing the pix of your install and any info on where these components came from.

Could you PM me the name/number/etc. of the AHM guy who saw you through this? If your car looks good, I'm gonna' get the ball rolling on mine.

Congratulations on finally getting your cutoff switch! Sounds like a nice solution. Hope your 2 1/2 year old enjoys the ride--mine certainly did!

The only Chrysler in your future is a Town and Country minivan. Ow! I said "minivan" in an S2000 forum!

PJK, you're a lucky man!

Seriously, of course, I hope everything goes well with the twins -- they can make for a tough delivery.

In our family (2 boys, 5 & 7), we have a Volvo wagon as a people hauler. My winter truck (Suzuki Sidekick) works well too. No Chrysler in our future, unless it's a "snake."
