This is a true story. Some guy climbed into my friend's car and took a dump on the driver seat. My friend did't see it and sat right on the mess. Yucks!

Definitely, closed the top unless you can see the car from where you are.

Do riders put a cover on their motorcycle every time they park it?

No of course not, so why put the roof up on your car each time?

^ Because motorcycles don't have cd's, stereos, and other valuables on them. Plus it's much easier to steal from a car. Motorcycles don't have anything to steal.

The only place I'll leave my top down for extended periods is in the parking garage where I work--it's well protected and has constant ventilation, so dust and such isn't much of an issue to me. Out-and-about, I'll leave it open only if it's only for a minute or two, like running in to pick up something or for an ATM; longer only if I'm parked in front (like a restaurant) and have clear view from where I'm seated (front window helps). Top up all others.

At Work--Top down (parking garage)
At Home--Top Down (garaged)
Golf Course--Top Down
Football games--Top Down
Grocery, drug, hardware store--Top Down

Got the picture?

If weather cooperates I can, and frequently do, go weeks at a time with top down (and boot on) and car is my daily driver. Been doing this for 14 years (10 Miata and 4 S2k) and NEVER a problem. Maybe I've just been lucky but then maybe some of you are too paranoid about this.
