My AP1 is bone stock. I have owned it since new. In my opinion, the cross over is barely noticeable, an in some conditions it is not noticeable at all. The engine continues reving and building power, but no big "kick" that I can feel.

Vtec will cross over once youve reached 6,000rpm assuming you have a stock ecu.. we do not have an i-vtec system.. i-vtec only works when the car is WOT. and for the guys who dont feel their vtec you need to check something out because my crossover puts me in my seat every time..

Something has to be wrong with your car, or you just never are WOT then - there is a very definitive "kick" when the cams switch over, especially in a F20.

Stock you should feel it. It was set to high from the factory. If you are feeling it then you have power to be made below vtec or by adjusting it. Once tuned you gain some nice power and have a very smooth transition. Mine is at 3800 now tuned and don't feel it at all.

I've been in quite a few AP1 S2000s, some stock and others not so much. If you can't feel the VTEC crossover in an AP1, you have terrible senses. I'd imagine you can still feel it to an extent in AP2s.

I have an Si, but have been test driving AP2s lately because I'm in the market for one and I definitely feel it more in the Si than I do in the 'S'. It feels a lot more smooth in the 'S', but that's just my opinion having driven both. I hear it's incredible on the Integra GSRs.

Yrs have gone by since had my intake and now my new exhaust is installed my S kicks harder than ever ...I agree if u have an ap1 and u feel no kick in of the cams ...check your car out somethings wrong imo.

The logic from Honda (with VTEC in general and with the F20) is that there is the economy cam and the power cam. Below 6k, it drives like any Civic and gets great mpg, emissions, etc. 6-9k was the power band and redline shifts keep you in that range, so no need to drop VTEC engagement per se, but as we all know, waiting for 6k to get some power can suck, and if you short shift and fall out of the power band, you have to work to get back into it. The "kick" is all that power Honda was holding back until 6k - something like 30-40 hp in an F20 - which is why lower VTEC engagement to a degree makes sense if you aren't as concerned with mpg and emissions.

That is one reason why Honda shifted the power band and power distribution in the F22C.

^ if you look at a dyno its a 5-7hp jump followed by a steeper power curve as opposed to the 30-40HP jump you suggest.
