Do You Know How To Drive Your Car?
I figured the question would draw a lot of attention. This is what I mean. This car has special characteristics that demand that it's driver be first informed, and secondly prepared to deal with it's quirks. I define quirks as traction, or lack there of. Seems that as the outside temps. drop that more and more folks are getting caught out losing the rear end in some sort of power related spin. How aware are each of you of the possibility that your oversight, or just being unprepared, could lead to an incident or worse? How many of you feel that you can (from the ownership experience) stay out of trouble and know with confidence where that line is? How many have just messed up, then backed up from that point? About those that just incrementally stepped up your driving style until you found the limits of the car? How many believe they have found the safe limits of the car? How many of you really care? Let's hear it!
I know the limitations of my car intimately. My style of driving comes partly from the cars I've owned...RX-7, MR-2, Conquest TSi, Miata, and the S2k, and partly from my need to have fun (exceed the handling limitations of the car) almost every moment I'm behind the wheel. This car demands special attention tho', I will say that, but I OWN it, it doesn't OWN me. It is a truly rare instance when the car surprises me (just because of the sheer amount of time I push the car hard). Those who drive this car hard every once in a while can be in for big trouble, the S can be quite unforgiving...even adversarial.

Yep. I really don't think it is that eccentric. The two handling eccentricities are easy to fix. Power oversteer and vtec-onset oversteer (which is still a theory) are avoided by:
The real question is: are these handling eccentricities features or bugs. You decide. I'll do without them.
S2Kguy, you really seem to understand what the car is for. Have fun. I too, think the fun comes from dancing on the ragged edge.

As jschmidt say, s2000 oversteer tendence is a feature not a fault.

and, above all, I'm still waiting for my first RWD
, for my first authentically RWD (because its pure mechanical -not electronic- transmission -limited slip differential-)...
I only have experience with FWD cars and for me, they're secure and easy handling for the major part of users but they're really bored

I know how to drive it well enough to enjoy it for now. But I don't drive it anywhere near the edge. I plan to take a performance driving class after this winter so I can enjoy the car even more
Head out to a local Auto-X even if it's not your bag, you will quickly find out just how hard you can push your car before it gives up on you. And all in a relitivly safe enviorment. I've driven my car for 2 years now, and I never have a doubt of what it's going to do at any time.
I don't want to make light of the other posts regarding snap oversteer and such, but for me..My tires are bald..I mean bald, and with the cold weather here, I find my backend sliding all over the place, but i've learned to anticapte its rotation, and while its handling is greatly reduced from what it was, I've followed its downward path, and act accordingly. Faster inputs, holding gears a little longer Etc.
Untill spring when i get my new tires on, then I'll probably expect it to slide and drive straight into a tree...I'll keep ya posted
