!Wow, that's a lot of data for an empty thread; definately a very large amount of overhead for every page! If it's graphics, look at using ProJPEG or PhotoGIF, these can drastically improve compression rates w/o suffering image quality.
Speaking of that; I noticed when I went to upload some JPEGs to my photo album on this site that they tripled in size! No idea if the sizes given are incorrect or if the site decompressed and inefficiently recompressed them or what, but if the new sizes are what gets served, it could be very helpful to serve them in their untouched format (or only recompress them if it saves size)
I would have to go with the majority here, and say that some people have signatures that are way to long. That is why I try and keep mine short and sweet, even if I have DSL at home, and T1 line at work.
